Job SummaryWe are looking for an experienced and hands-on Shopfloor Supervisor to lead our production operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in steel fabrication, machining (flanges/bolts), and workforce management.
You will be responsible for translating customer drawings into finished products, managing the floor staff (welders, fitters, machinists), and ensuring that every part leaving the shop meets our strict quality standards.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Execution- Workflow Management: Plan daily production schedules based on pending orders and delivery deadlines. Ensure machines and manpower are allocated efficiently to avoid bottlenecks.
- Drawing Interpretation: Review and interpret complex engineering drawings (CAD/2D) for flanges, foundation bolts, and structural fabrication. Explain technical requirements to fitters and machinists.
- Contract Manufacturing Compliance: Ensure that parts are manufactured strictly according to the specific Make-to-Order requirements of different clients.
- Material Planning: Raise requisitions for raw materials (steel plates, rounds, bars) and consumables (welding rods, gases, cutting tools) to ensure zero downtime.
2. Quality Control (QA/QC)- In-Process Inspection: Conduct regular dimensional checks during the fabrication process (cutting, bending, welding, threading of bolts).
- Final Inspection: Verify finished goods (Flanges, Bolts) against the client's drawing tolerances before dispatch.
- Weld Quality: Visually inspect weld quality (porosity, cracks, bead appearance) and ensure fit-up accuracy before final welding.
- Documentation: Maintain production logs, rejection reports, and material test certificates (MTC).
3. Workforce & Shopfloor Management- Team Leadership: Supervise and motivate a team of welders, fitters, riggers, and helpers.
- Discipline & Attendance: Manage shift rosters, track attendance, and handle shopfloor discipline.
- Training: Provide on-the-job guidance to junior workers regarding proper machine usage and safety protocols.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce the use of PPE (Safety shoes, goggles, helmets, welding shields) and ensure a hazard-free work environment.
4. Machine & Tool Maintenance- Preventive Maintenance: Schedule routine cleaning and oiling of machinery (Lathes, Drilling machines, Welding sets, Power saws).
- Breakdown Management: Report machine breakdowns immediately and coordinate with maintenance technicians to minimize downtime.
Required Qualifications & SkillsEducation:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / B.E or B.Tech (Mechanical) OR
- ITI Certification with extensive practical experience.
Experience:
- Minimum 37 years of experience in a Steel Fabrication shop or Machine Shop.
- Specific experience in manufacturing Foundation Bolts and Flanges is highly preferred.
- Experience in a Job Work or Contract Manufacturing environment is a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Blueprint Reading: Expert ability to read and understand engineering fabrication drawings.
- Measurement Tools: Proficiency in using Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, and Measuring Tapes.
- Process Knowledge: Strong understanding of Cutting, Grinding, Welding (MIG/ARC), Threading, and Drilling processes.
Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership and ability to command respect from the workforce.
- Problem-solving mindset (ability to fix issues on the spot).
- Basic computer literacy (Excel/Email) for reporting.
