We are seeking an experienced Senior System Engineer - MongoDB DBA to spearhead the management, optimization, and enhancement of our MongoDB environments. In this key role, you will ensure the resilience, scalability, and high performance of our database systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver state-of-the-art database solutions.
Responsibilities
- Act as a senior database expert to support resilient, scalable, and high-performance MongoDB environments
- Lead advanced database operations, migrations, performance tuning, and architectural improvements
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and process or automation enhancements
- Collaborate with architects and engineering teams on database design and optimization strategies
- Architect, implement, and manage MongoDB deployments, including replica sets and sharded clusters
- Drive performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, and workload analysis
- Oversee backup/restore strategy design, disaster recovery planning, and high availability configurations
- Support major schema design improvements, version upgrades, and migrations to the cloud
- Troubleshoot complex issues like replication lag, sharding balancer conflicts, and storage performance
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and automation tools to drive operational efficiency
- Mentor L1/L2 DBAs and contribute to database best practices and operational documentation
- Collaborate with development and DevOps teams on data modeling and release integration
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience as a MongoDB DBA managing large-scale production environments
- Deep understanding of MongoDB internals: replication, sharding architecture, balancer tuning, and the WiredTiger engine
- Expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, and index strategies
- Hands-on experience diagnosing and resolving issues with replica sets and sharded clusters
- Strong knowledge of Linux with skills in scripting (Shell/Python) and automation frameworks
- Proficiency in using monitoring and observability tools specifically designed for MongoDB
- Competency in at least one additional RDBMS such as Oracle, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken, at a minimum B2 level
Nice to have
- Strong experience with major cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure for database services
- Hands-on expertise with MongoDB Atlas, multi-cloud clusters, and implementing security measures like encryption
- Exposure to Kafka, microservices, or high-volume data streaming environments
- Background in building internal tools or automation for database deployment and monitoring
- Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code solutions like Terraform or Ansible
