Join Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Senior R&D Manager and contribute to technology development at a leading organization serving science. In this role, you will drive key initiatives that help make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer by delivering innovative solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
As part of the Specialty Diagnostics Group (SDG), you will contribute to the development of advanced diagnostic solutions across areas such as immunodiagnostics, clinical chemistry, and specialty testing. The SDG R&D organization focuses on designing and delivering high-quality instruments and systems that enable accurate and timely clinical decision-making for laboratories and healthcare providers globally.
In this role, you will act as a technical leader and design expert, owning end-to-end product development responsibilities, particularly in instrument and system design. You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders-including product management, quality, regulatory, and operations-to translate customer needs into robust, scalable, and compliant product solutions. While this is an individual contributor role, you will play a critical leadership role through influence, driving technical direction, mentoring team members, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Your expertise will be key in delivering impactful R&D outcomes aligned with SDG's strategic priorities.
REQUIREMENTS:
. 15+ years of experience in complex technical product development
. Professional certifications in project management, Six Sigma, or related areas are a plus
. Proven track record delivering innovative products from concept through commercialization
. Experience working in medical device or instrumentation
. Strong understanding of product development lifecycles and stage-gate processes
. Excellent project and program management capabilities
. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for engaging diverse stakeholders
. Strategic thinking and analytical problem-solving abilities
. Demonstrated success building and developing high-performing teams
. Experience with quality management systems and regulatory requirements
. Proficiency with product development tools, methodologies and best practices
. Strong business acumen and customer focus
. Ability to influence and collaborate across global matrix organizations
. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
. Willingness to travel up to 25% as needed
. Experience with agile development methodologies preferred
