Job Summary:
- This role involves the development, maintenance, and enhancement of Mainframe-based applications and systems using languages such as COBOL, PLI, Assembler, or REXX. It also requires managing Mainframe databases (DB2, IMS DB, IDMS), ensuring data integrity and optimal performance, and supporting batch job scheduling systems. The candidate will perform system analysis, debugging, optimization, and collaborate closely with business teams to deliver solutions that meet business requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Application Development & Maintenance:
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Mainframe-based applications using languages such as COBOL, PLI, Assembler, or REXX.
- Perform system analysis, debugging, and optimization of existing Mainframe applications to improve functionality and performance.
Database Management:
- Manage and maintain Mainframe databases (e.g., DB2, IMS DB, IDMS) to ensure data integrity, availability, and optimal performance.
- Implement database optimization techniques and ensure high availability and reliability of data storage systems.
Batch Job Scheduling & Monitoring:
- Monitor and support batch job scheduling systems like CA7 or ControlM, resolving issues in a timely manner to ensure smooth operation of scheduled tasks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve batch job failures and scheduling conflicts.
Collaboration with Business Teams:
- Work closely with business teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical designs and solutions.
- Understand business needs and ensure the developed applications meet those requirements.
System Testing & Implementation:
- Perform system testing, implementation, and documentation for new or modified applications to ensure they function as expected.
- Conduct thorough testing to identify issues and ensure high-quality releases.
System Upgrades & Migrations:
- Handle system migrations, upgrades, and patching activities for Mainframe applications, ensuring minimal downtime and system stability.
- Participate in the planning and execution of system updates and patch deployments.
Collaboration with Infrastructure Team:
- Work with the infrastructure team to perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal system performance.
- Address system bottlenecks and improve the overall efficiency of Mainframe applications.
Security & Data Protection:
- Implement security best practices to ensure system integrity, confidentiality, and protection of sensitive data.
- Ensure compliance with security policies and standards, including access control and encryption.
Technical Support & End-User Assistance:
- Provide technical support to end-users and stakeholders, ensuring high system availability and reliability.
- Respond to user-reported issues promptly, offering troubleshooting assistance and solutions.
Skills and Qualifications:
Mainframe Development:
- Strong experience with Mainframe development languages such as COBOL, PLI, Assembler, and REXX.
Database Management:
- Hands-on experience managing Mainframe databases like DB2, IMS DB, or IDMS.
- Knowledge of data management practices, database integrity, and performance tuning.
Batch Job Scheduling:
- Proficiency in using batch job scheduling systems such as CA7 or ControlM.
System Analysis & Debugging:
- Strong analytical skills for performing system analysis, debugging, and optimization.
Business Analysis & Collaboration:
- Ability to collaborate with business teams to gather requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
Testing & Documentation:
- Experience in system testing, implementation, and technical documentation.
Migrations & Upgrades:
- Experience performing system migrations, upgrades, and patch management on Mainframe systems.
Performance Tuning & Troubleshooting:
- Familiarity with performance tuning and capacity planning techniques to optimize system performance.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve system and application issues.
Security & Compliance:
