About the team

The HR Products organization is looking for a seasoned Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to join the team which owns one of the most critical and strategic product lines for Rippling - Global Contractors, Compliance & Work Authorization - which is among the most foundational products of Rippling. The areas of ownership for this role will require you to be a key owner of our Global Expansion efforts, which comes with high visibility and growth opportunities. This role will involve an outstanding blend of Technical savviness and Product development, the ability to look into and shape the overall architecture of the Product itself.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will own/design/develop end-to-end features/modules in product development. You'll be influencing the product spec for an owned feature, designing the backend and wiring it with the frontend to launch. Once launched, you'll be responsible for any further improvements to the feature.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with Product Management and other stakeholders within Engineering (Frontend, UX, etc.) to maintain a high bar for quality in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
  • Wear a product manager hat when needed.
  • Build features that solve technical problems of high scope and complexity.
  • Participate in planning activities, perform code reviews, and contribute to a growing team.
  • Provide mentorship for Junior and Intermediate Engineers on your team to help them grow in their technical responsibilities and remove blockers to their autonomy.

Who You Are:

  • You care about product ownership and solving problems for our customers.
  • You're passionate about being in a product-focused environment where everyone cares deeply about customer impact.
  • You enjoy and are enthusiastic about writing code!

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping backend systems end-to-end.
  • Strong CS fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and reliability at scale.
  • Proficiency in one or more backend languages (Python, Go, Java, or Node.js) and hands-on experience with RESTful or gRPC APIs.
  • Solid database skills, including designing schemas and writing efficient queries in relational (Postgres, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis) stores.
  • Product mindset and communication excellence, able to collaborate with PMs, UX, internal teams, and external partners to turn ambiguous requirements into robust solutions.
  • Self-starter attitude, comfortable learning new frameworks, digging into unfamiliar codebases, and proactively taking on non-core tasks (e.g., light front-end work, custom tooling, support).
