Senior Software Engineer – Platform Engineering (PaaS)

Your role and responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable, multi-tenant microservices that power the platform.
• Architect and implement complex platform solutions, ensuring high performance, security, and maintainability.
• Work closely with peer teams, e.g. SRE, to ensure the platform is highly available and optimized for cost and resource usage.
• Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a collaborative environment and promoting best practices.
• Collaborate directly with internal users (developers, technical owners, security specialists) to understand their needs and deliver tailored solutions.
• Help define and maintain platform standards, including code quality, testing, and security.
• Contribute to the development of the developer portal, integrating features that improve the overall developer experience.
• Drive platform improvements based on feedback from users and performance metrics.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to platform performance, security, and scalability.
• Participate in on-call rotations to provide support for production issues when needed.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to continually evolve the platform.

Required technical and professional expertise

• 8+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on platform engineering and microservice architectures.
• Expertise in Golang and JavaScript (React.js) for developing full-stack solutions.
• Extensive experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, or other container orchestration platforms.
• Deep understanding of multi-tenant system design and architecture.
• Strong background in cloud-native development, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.
• Expertise in designing and implementing APIs and microservices.
• Solid understanding of security best practices for platform development and management.
• Deep understanding of at least one public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Proven experience leading or mentoring engineering teams, with a strong focus on collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to tackle complex technical challenges.
• Familiarity with service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd) and distributed tracing.
• Strong collaboration skills and experience working cross-functionally with teams like Infrastructure, SRE, security, and application owners.

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Experience with extending Kubernetes/OpenShift, including developing custom Operators or other Kubernetes-native solutions.
• Experience working in an enterprise environment with multiple development teams.
• Understanding of IBM cloud infrastructure.
• Prior experience building or contributing to a developer portal.
• Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and observability tools.
