Company:
Did you know KONE moves two billion people every day As a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, we employ over 60,000 driven professionals in more than 60 countries worldwide joined together by a shared purpose, to shape the future of cities.
Why this role
- Develop, validate, and maintain multi‑domain simulation models and tools for elevator systems within R&D, enabling virtual prototyping, performance optimization, and support for product, hardware, and software/service development
What will you be doing
- Develop and maintain system‑level and component‑level simulation models for elevator systems (mechanical, electrical, control, and passenger traffic) using industry‑standard tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Modelica, Amesim or equivalent).
- Work withProduct R&Dto simulate new elevator concepts, group control strategies, building traffic scenarios, and ride comfort to support architecture decisions before prototyping.
- Collaborate withHardware R&Dto model critical components (machines, doors, brakes, ropes, guide rails, frames, structures) and perform studies on dynamics, vibration, noise, fatigue, and thermal behavior.
- Partner withSoftware/Service R&Dto build and maintain simulation anddigital twinenvironments that reflect real elevator installations for remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and service decision support.
- Create parameterized and reusable simulation models that allow efficient exploration of design variants, operating conditions, building types, and load profiles across product families.
- Plan and execute simulation studies to answer specific engineering questions related to safety margins, energy usage, ride comfort, stress/strain, thermal effects, and system response to faults or abnormal conditions.
- Calibrate and validate models using test‑bench data, lab results, commissioning data, and field measurements refine models based on discrepancies and feedback from test and service teams.
- Develop high‑fidelity and reduced‑order models for multiple use cases (concept evaluation, control tuning, system sizing, thermal optimization, fatigue studies).
- Support development and tuning ofcontrol algorithms(motion control, door control, group control) by providing simulation environments for concept evaluation, SIL/HIL testing, and parameter optimization.
- Document models, assumptions, limitations, and results clearly, and create usage guidelines and training material for other R&D engineers.
Required Skills:
- Strong hands‑on experience with one or more system simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Modelica/Dymola, Amesim or similar multi‑physics environments).
- Solid understanding of dynamics, vibrations, control systems, and basic structural and thermal analysis for electromechanical systems.
- Proven experience in building, calibrating, and validating models with experimental or field data.
- Experience with version control systems (Git), CI/CD for models, and modular code/model architecture.
- Ability to script and automate simulation workflows (e.g., using MATLAB, Python, or similar) for parameter sweeps, sensitivity analysis, and design optimization.
- Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate questions from product, hardware, and service stakeholders into well‑structured simulation studies.
Are you the one
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in system simulation/modelling in industrial, transportation, machinery, or similar domains.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, excellent communication, and comfort working in global, cross‑functional R&D environments.
- Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and structured documentation habits. Ability to create clear visualizations, dashboards, or reports to communicate simulation insights.
What do we offer
- Development and growth opportunities within a global organization.
- Warm and friendly international working environment
- Being part of an industry leader in sustainability.
