The Senior SHE Manager is responsible for
planning, implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) systems across elevated metro construction works, ensuring
zero harm, statutory compliance, and alignment with client and organizational SHE standards.
Key Responsibilities1. Safety Management
- Develop, implement, and enforce Project SHE Plan in line with Metro Rail Safety Rules, ISO 45001, and company SHE policies.
- Ensure safe execution of high-risk activities such as:
- Work at height (pier, pier cap, U-girder erection)
- Launching girder operations
- Heavy lifting using cranes and gantries
- Traffic management on live roads
- Electrical & OHE-related works
- Conduct and review Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Method Statements, and Risk Assessments.
- Lead accident/incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
- Monitor safety performance indicators (TRIR, LTIFR, near-miss reporting).
2. Health Management
- Implement Occupational Health & Hygiene programs for construction workforce.
- Ensure periodic medical check-ups, fitness certifications, and monitoring of occupational diseases.
- Control exposure to dust, noise, vibration, heat stress, and hazardous substances.
- Promote worker welfare facilities: drinking water, sanitation, rest areas, and first-aid facilities.
3. Environmental Management
- Implement Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for elevated metro construction.
- Ensure compliance with statutory environmental norms:
- Dust suppression & noise control
- Waste management (construction debris, hazardous waste)
- Water conservation and pollution control
- Coordinate with authorities for environmental clearances, NOCs, and audits.
- Monitor environmental parameters and submit compliance reports to client/consultant.
4. Statutory & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- Factories Act / BOCW Act
- Metro Rail Safety Regulations
- Labour laws and local statutory requirements
- Liaise with Labour Department, Safety Inspectors, and Metro Authorities.
- Maintain statutory registers, permits, and compliance documentation.
5. Training & Awareness
- Plan and conduct SHE trainings for employees, engineers, supervisors, and contractors.
- Ensure induction training, toolbox talks, mock drills, and emergency preparedness programs.
- Develop a strong safety culture through behavior-based safety (BBS) initiatives.
