Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Care

  • Manage OPD patients with orthopedic complaints including fractures, arthritis, sports injuries, spinal conditions, and congenital deformities.
  • Assess and manage orthopedic emergencies such as trauma, dislocations, and fractures.
  • Assist and independently perform orthopedic surgeries (depending on experience and designation), including:
  • Fracture fixation (ORIF)
  • Arthroscopy
  • Joint replacements
  • Spine procedures
  • Pre-operative and post-operative patient care, documentation, and follow-up.

2. Inpatient & Emergency Duties

  • Conduct daily rounds in orthopedic wards and ICUs.
  • Monitor progress of admitted patients and respond to complications.
  • Participate in 24x7 trauma/emergency orthopedic care as per duty rosters.

3. Academic Responsibilities (For Teaching Hospitals)

  • Attend and participate in academic activities such as case discussions, journal clubs, seminars, and bedside teaching.
  • Assist in teaching and mentoring junior residents, interns, and medical students.
  • Engage in clinical research, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

4. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate patient records, discharge summaries, consent forms, and operative notes.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control, and medico-legal standards.
  • Participate in audits, mortality reviews, and clinical governance meetings.

Qualifications & Experience:

For Senior Resident:

  • Qualification: MS / DNB in Orthopedics from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: 03 years post-PG clinical experience (as per MCI/NMC norms).
  • Must be registered with the Medical Council of India or State Medical Council.

For Attending Consultant:

  • Qualification: MS / DNB in Orthopedics, preferably with fellowship or super-specialization (e.g., joint replacement, sports medicine, spine surgery).
  • Experience: 36 years of post-PG clinical/surgical experience in a recognized hospital.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Sound clinical and surgical judgment in orthopedic cases.
  • Proficiency in orthopedic procedures, emergency care, and trauma management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients and team.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team under pressure.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and patient safety.
