Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Management – ICU & Emergency
- Assess and manage patients with life-threatening conditions such as:
- Sepsis and septic shock
- ARDS and respiratory failure
- Multi-organ dysfunction
- Poisoning, trauma, and neurocritical cases
- Manage ventilators (invasive and non-invasive), fluid therapy, vasopressors, inotropes, and renal replacement therapies.
- Monitor and interpret vital parameters, labs, ABGs, imaging, and hemodynamic data.
2. ICU Procedures
- Perform or supervise bedside procedures, such as:
- Central venous catheterization
- Arterial line insertion
- Endotracheal intubation
- Bronchoscopy (if trained)
- Percutaneous tracheostomy
- Ultrasound-guided interventions
- Participate in code blue responses and CPR leadership.
3. Coordination & Handover
- Lead or participate in daily multidisciplinary ICU rounds with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing teams.
- Ensure proper handovers between shifts and interdepartmental communication for referrals and transfers.
4. Academic & Research Responsibilities (For Teaching Institutions)
- Attend and contribute to academic rounds, journal clubs, seminars, and simulation training.
- Mentor and teach medical students, interns, and junior residents.
- Participate in clinical research, audits, and quality improvement projects.
5. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain detailed ICU charts, notes, treatment orders, and consent documentation.
- Ensure compliance with ICU protocols, hospital infection control, and safety standards.
- Participate in mortality reviews and reporting of sentinel events.
Qualifications & Experience:
For Senior Resident:
- MBBS with MD/DNB in Internal Medicine / Anaesthesia / Pulmonology / Emergency Medicine
- Fellowship or diploma in Critical Care (IDCCM / CTCCM / EDIC / FCCS) preferred
- BLS and ACLS certification mandatory
- 0–3 years of ICU experience post-PG
For Attending / Associate Consultant:
- MD/DNB with 3–5+ years of critical care experience
- Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine (IDCCM, IFCCM, DM – Critical Care preferred)
- Independently capable of managing ICU procedures and emergencies
- Experience in managing COVID/ARDS/ventilator cases is an added advantage
