Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care – CCU & Emergency
- Provide round-the-clock management of patients in the CCU, including:
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Arrhythmias
- Cardiogenic shock
- Heart failure exacerbations
- Post-PCI and post-cardiac surgery monitoring
- Perform and interpret ECGs, ABGs, bedside echocardiograms, and cardiac monitoring.
- Initiate and manage ventilator support, inotropes, anticoagulation, and anti-arrhythmic drugs as needed.
2. Procedures (as per experience and role)
- Insert central lines, arterial lines, temporary pacemakers, and pericardiocentesis.
- Assist in or perform primary PCI, thrombolysis, IABP management (if trained).
- Triage and stabilize patients in cardiac emergency scenarios and refer appropriately.
3. Coordination & Teamwork
- Work closely with cardiologists, intensivists, cath lab teams, and nurses to ensure high-quality care.
- Prepare and present clinical case summaries during rounds and handovers.
- Ensure smooth transfer of patients to step-down units, cath lab, or operating rooms.
4. Academic & Training Responsibilities (Teaching Institutions)
- Participate in academic programs, journal clubs, and clinical case discussions.
- Mentor interns, junior residents, and fellows.
- Participate in audits, M&M meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
5. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of clinical findings, treatment plans, procedures, and medication charts.
- Ensure proper consent, billing documentation, and discharge summaries.
- Adhere to infection control, code blue, CPR, and institutional policies.
Qualifications & Experience:
For Senior Resident:
- MD / DNB in Internal Medicine (mandatory)
- DM / DNB Cardiology (in progress or completed) – preferred
- BLS & ACLS certification desirable
- Registered with NMC / State Medical Council
For Attending / Associate Consultant:
- DM / DNB in Cardiology from a recognized institution
- 2–5 years of independent clinical experience in managing cardiac ICU or CCU
- Experience in managing complex cardiac emergencies and assisting in interventional procedures
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong clinical acumen in acute cardiology and emergency management
- Competence in interpreting ECGs, echoes, and cardiac biomarkers
- Proficiency in use of monitors, ventilators, and cardiac life support equipment
- Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure, fast-paced CCU settings
- Good communication, decision-making, and teamwork skills
