Job Description

Role Purpose:

Steel will play a pivotal role in the global energy transition and will be an integral part of solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicles, dams, etc. In parallel the industry will also create a number of opportunities for newer technologies and energy products especially hydrogen as it decarbonizes

.Industry stakeholders across the steel and raw materials value chain will need to understand the key drivers and trends impacting the industry in both the near term and long term. Miners, steelmakers, traders, logistics providers, investment bank, and financial institutions will need to be well versed with research and analytics for more informed decision making

.The Senior Research Analyst Steel and Raw Materials will apply solid analytical capabilities and knowledge to enhance Wood Mackenzie's analysis and services to customers

.Reporting directly to the Head of Steel and Raw Materials, you will be responsible for developing a good understanding of our clients interests and provide frequent, rigorous, and sharply written analysis as part of our publication schedules. You will also lead innovative and differentiated trends, insights, and thought leadership articles and publications. The analyst will communicate regularly with clients as well as internal stakeholders, sharing our views and engaging in mutually beneficial communication

Main Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive coverage of the Asia steel and iron ore sectors.
  • Author regular publications providing our near-term and long-term outlook
  • Analyse decarbonisation trends shaping the steel and raw materials industry and lead our coverage on DRI.
  • Author differentiated market analysis and thought leadership pieces on topical themes surrounding the ferrous space.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with industry stakeholders to gather intelligence that will enrich the quality and timeliness of our research solutions.
  • Effectively communicate our research and analysis to clients.
  • Work closely with colleagues in allied groups like energy to help shape the company's integrated view.

About You / Qualifications:

  • Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g. Mining/ Geology/ Metallurgical Engineering or Economics/ Business etc.)
  • Detailed knowledge of ferrous industry especially steel, iron ore, and the wider metals industry
  • Excellent numerical analytic capabilities, including problem-solving and technical skills in Excel
  • Systemic work-load management and planning skills
  • The ability to work as part of a team, which will involve multiple locations and time zones
  • Good networked in the industry with contacts across the value chain
  • A strong commitment to commercial excellence and ability to deliver the high-quality standards
  • Experience of managing clients in ferrous value chain.
