Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer (EMT Studies) to deliver advanced power system studies for grid-connected generation. The role focuses on Electromagnetic Transients (EMT) studies to support compliance with UK grid codes, covering projects from early concept through to final approval and energisation. The candidate MUST be able to deliver studies independently while assisting junior engineers.
The role spans both technical analysis and industry engagement, helping ensure that generation projects (especially renewables and storage) meet regulatory and grid code standards, contributing to stable grid operation and support the transition to a low-carbon energy system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake and support grid connection applications acting as the technical consultant between clients and DNO/IDNO.
- Undertake EMT modelling and grid connection assessments and interpret results to support project design and compliance documentation according to G99 and NESO standards.
- Strong modelling experience working with PSCAD including ability to set-up, validate the OEMs models.
- Liaise with National Grid ESO (NESO) , Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), equipment manufacturers, and regulators on modelling data, compliance issues, and planning outcomes.
- Produce high-quality technical reports, visualisations and presentations summarising study outcomes, compliance status, and risks.
- Work collaboratively with engineering design, project management, and commercial teams.
- Stay up to date with UK energy regulations and compliance standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
- 3 to 4 years of experience working with PSCAD delivering EMT studies.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Keen interest in continuous professional development and working towards professional growth.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Working towards gaining professional status with the IET/IEEE.
