A Brief Overview
The Senior Accountant applies GAAP in performing account reconciliations, analyzing financial transactions, preparing journal entries and financial reports. This role also maintains consistency with GAAP reporting, along with audit requirements and SOX compliance, to perform month-end close, prepare financial reports for internal use, and as assigned for external auditors.
This position offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise in U.S. payroll tax withholdings and learn how to use industry-leading software like Oracle and MasterTax to account for them. You'll collaborate closely with tax payment specialists to resolve reconciliation variances, gaining hands-on exposure to the operational side of tax accounting.
What You Will Do
Responsible for monthly financial close activities including preparation, review and posting of journal entries Responsible for reconciliation and analysis of complex balance sheet and income statement accounts Prepare monthly and quarterly fluctuation analyses for management reporting and analytics Analyze and document account variances amongst large data sets Document policies and procedures as necessary Supports SOX compliance relating to assigned areas of the business Provide support to finance management and other internal customers as needs arise, including, ad hoc financial analysis and special projects Lead and assist in multiple audits throughout the year, including financial statement audit, SOC I Type II audit, etc. Prepare audit schedules and works with senior accountants and staff accounts to develop timely responses to auditor questions and other inquiries Investigates variances and works with business partners to resolve discrepancies Assist and support cross functional projects as necessary Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all policies and standards
Education Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required Chartered Accountant preferred Experience Qualifications
Typically 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting preferred Experience in Fortune 1000 size company (publicly traded) with high volume transactions and disciplined close process preferred Skills and Abilities
Theoretical and practical grasp of US GAAP (Basic proficiency) Understanding of accounting processes and ERP systems (Basic proficiency) Basic understanding of US Payroll Tax laws a plus Experience in SOX control execution/documentation desirable (Basic proficiency) Proficiency in MS Office Suite, advanced Excel skills required including: nested formulas, pivot tables, XLOOKUP, Indexing Experience in Oracle/Oracle fusion preferred Effective verbal and written communications (Intermediate proficiency) Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills (Basic proficiency) Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and progressive environment (Basic proficiency) Ability to have professional judgement and interact with different levels of management Strong analytical skills, exceptional organization and time management skills, and ability to work autonomously Willingness to learn and develop new skills (Intermediate proficiency) Willingness to work across Time Zones (North America) Develops a clear understanding of the expected work paper approach and associated referencing techniques consistent with policy Ability to follow up on pending issues, take initiative and solve problems Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all policies and procedures
