Job Description

Role Description

We are seeking a Senior Optical Engineer to lead the design and development of optical hardware for next-generation 3D machine vision systems. You will architect and deliver complete optical solutions - from concept through to production - that enable the capture of high-fidelity 3D data using structured light, stereo vision, time-of-flight technologies, and other advanced techniques. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing robust, precision optical systems for dynamic, real-world industrial or product environments

Key Responsibilities

  • Optical System Design & Architecture: Lead the design, simulation, and tolerance analysis of complex optical systems for 3D data acquisition (e.g., structured light, LiDAR, stereo vision, laser scanning). Define system architectures and performance requirements based on top-level product goals.
  • End-to-End Product Development: Own the optical subsystem through the entire product lifecycle: from initial concept and prototyping to integration, environmental testing, verification, and transition to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the optical subject matter expert, working closely with mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of optical components (sensors, lasers, illuminators, lenses) into the final product.
  • Testing & Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, including optical performance qualification (MTF, PSF, distortion), calibration procedures, and environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock) to validate design performance and reliability.
  • Documentation & Leadership: Prepare detailed design documentation, test reports, and manufacturing guides. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. MS or PhD preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on industry experience in the design, analysis, alignment, and testing of complex opto-mechanical systems.
  • Core Technical Expertise:
  1. Proficiency with optical design software (Zemax or Code V) for modeling and tolerancing imaging systems.
  2. Demonstrated experience designing hardware for 3D data capture using techniques such as laser-based scanning (e.g., LiDAR, interferometry), stereo vision, or structured light.
  3. Strong understanding of opto-mechanical principles, materials, and manufacturing methods for precision systems in dynamic environments.
  4. Experience with STOP (Structural, Thermal, Optical Performance) analysis.
  • Professional Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills for cross-team collaboration, and a detail-oriented approach to system validation and documentation.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunities to work on cutting-edge automation projects.
  • Professional development support (e.g., courses in executive leadership or advanced optics).
