Role Summary

Join athenahealth as a Senior Member of Technical Staff at the Senior Associate level, based in Bangalore - Whitefield, working in a hybrid model. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative healthcare technology that empowers providers to focus on patient care. You will be responsible for building and enhancing cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) solutions using modern technologies. This position reports directly to the Senior Member of Technical Staff - Software Development.

Team Summary: The Clinicals Team

We build the interface that makes the interactions between these providers and the electronic health record as seamless as possible, and elevates what the doctor needs to see, when they need to see it. This team is innovative, passionate, and driven by our mission to help make an impact.

We are looking for a Senior Member of Technical Staff to join our Clinicals team within our Bangalore R&D division. Your job will be to build products and services for Clinicals. Help us reach our goal of becoming the healthcare backbone by enhancing our cloud-based EHR solution and leveraging the network effect of 85,400+ providers. Apply your technical skills towards allowing doctors to be doctors so that they are able to spend more time doing what they do best: provide patient care.

You are an engineer with experience building full stack web applications, preferably in public and private cloud environments. You are an excellent communicator capable of quickly picking up the complicated healthcare domain. You are a persistent yet adaptable learner who demonstrates design and engineering excellence.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain scalable, high-performance applications using Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
  • Design and implement cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS services to enhance product capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features aligned with clinical workflows.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex technical issues to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge to foster a collaborative engineering culture.
  • Ensure adherence to security and compliance standards in software development.

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Contribute to architectural discussions and technology strategy within the Clinicals team.
  • Assist in the evaluation and adoption of new tools and technologies to improve development efficiency.
  • Support deployment and monitoring activities to maintain system health in production environments.
  • Engage with product management and clinical stakeholders to understand user needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Document technical designs and decisions to support knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in team meetings and agile ceremonies to drive project progress.
  • Support continuous learning initiatives and professional development activities.

Expected Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 to 8 years of professional experience in software development.
  • Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot framework.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native application development.
  • Experience building and maintaining scalable web applications.
  • Familiarity with software development best practices including version control, CI/CD, and automated testing.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a hybrid team environment.
