Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead – Axial Flux Motors

Location: Pune

Department: Mechanical Engineering / Advanced Motor Design

Experience Required: 8–15+ years

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead to drive the mechanical design and development of axial flux motor systems. This role will lead a team of engineers working across CAD, CAM, thermal management, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness), ensuring robust, manufacturable, and high-performance motor designs.

The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in electromechanical product design with strong leadership capabilities and a proven track record in delivering complex rotating machinery or motor systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end mechanical design of axial flux motors from concept through production
  • Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary mechanical team covering:
  • 3D CAD design and detailing
  • CAM and manufacturing process development
  • Thermal analysis and cooling system design
  • NVH analysis and optimization
  • Define mechanical architecture including rotor-stator configuration, housing, shafting, and structural components
  • Ensure design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and cost optimization
  • Drive material selection, tolerance stack-ups, and mechanical reliability analysis
  • Oversee thermal management strategies including air/liquid cooling and heat dissipation
  • Lead NVH characterization and mitigation (vibration modes, acoustic noise reduction)
  • Collaborate closely with electromagnetic and power electronics teams for system-level optimization
  • Guide prototyping, testing, validation, and failure analysis
  • Establish and enforce engineering best practices, standards, and documentation
  • Interface with suppliers and manufacturing partners for tooling and production readiness

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical design of motors, rotating machinery, or similar systems
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in product development environments
  • Strong expertise in:
  • CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or equivalent)
  • Mechanical design of high-speed rotating systems
  • Thermal analysis (CFD tools like ANSYS, Star-CCM+, etc.)
  • NVH analysis and vibration fundamentals
  • Experience with manufacturing processes (machining, casting, additive, etc.) and CAM workflows
  • Strong understanding of materials, tolerancing (GD&T), and structural analysis (FEA)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience specifically with axial flux or high-performance electric motors
  • Background in EV, aerospace, or industrial drive systems
  • Familiarity with rotor dynamics and bearing design
  • Experience with multi-physics simulation (electromagnetic-thermal-mechanical coupling)
  • Knowledge of lightweighting and advanced materials (composites, alloys)

Key Competencies
  • Strong technical leadership and team management
  • System-level thinking and cross-functional collaboration
  • Analytical problem-solving and root cause analysis
  • High attention to detail with execution rigor
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders

Success Criteria
  • Delivery of optimized, manufacturable axial flux motor designs
  • Improved thermal performance, reduced NVH, and enhanced mechanical reliability
  • Efficient collaboration with electrical and controls teams
  • Successful transition from prototype to production
