Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead – Axial Flux Motors

Role OverviewWe are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead to drive the mechanical design and development of axial flux motor systems. This role will lead a team of engineers working across CAD, CAM, thermal management, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness), ensuring robust, manufacturable, and high-performance motor designs.
The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in electromechanical product design with strong leadership capabilities and a proven track record in delivering complex rotating machinery or motor systems.
Key Responsibilities- Lead end-to-end mechanical design of axial flux motors from concept through production
- Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary mechanical team covering:
- 3D CAD design and detailing
- CAM and manufacturing process development
- Thermal analysis and cooling system design
- NVH analysis and optimization
- Define mechanical architecture including rotor-stator configuration, housing, shafting, and structural components
- Ensure design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and cost optimization
- Drive material selection, tolerance stack-ups, and mechanical reliability analysis
- Oversee thermal management strategies including air/liquid cooling and heat dissipation
- Lead NVH characterization and mitigation (vibration modes, acoustic noise reduction)
- Collaborate closely with electromagnetic and power electronics teams for system-level optimization
- Guide prototyping, testing, validation, and failure analysis
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices, standards, and documentation
- Interface with suppliers and manufacturing partners for tooling and production readiness
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical design of motors, rotating machinery, or similar systems
- Proven experience leading engineering teams in product development environments
- Strong expertise in:
- CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or equivalent)
- Mechanical design of high-speed rotating systems
- Thermal analysis (CFD tools like ANSYS, Star-CCM+, etc.)
- NVH analysis and vibration fundamentals
- Experience with manufacturing processes (machining, casting, additive, etc.) and CAM workflows
- Strong understanding of materials, tolerancing (GD&T), and structural analysis (FEA)
Preferred Qualifications- Experience specifically with axial flux or high-performance electric motors
- Background in EV, aerospace, or industrial drive systems
- Familiarity with rotor dynamics and bearing design
- Experience with multi-physics simulation (electromagnetic-thermal-mechanical coupling)
- Knowledge of lightweighting and advanced materials (composites, alloys)
