You will be responsible for the development and qualifications of next generation ceramic materials & composites for Tata electronics component business. This role involves understanding material through characterization and improving mechanical properties like strength, stiffness, fatigue, long term performance, performance under harsh environments and durability.
You will be using fundamental ceramic material principles to drive the development of ceramics & composites in the manufacturing process of components. You will be driving programs to provide key materials, data inputs for design, New Product Development, and manufacturing teams.
Key Responsibilities for Ceramic Engineering for Electrinics Components Business in TEPL:
Materials & Process Engineering
- Develop and optimize ceramic materials and formulations (e.g. alumina, zirconia, aluminum nitride, glass-ceramics, etc.) for electronic applications.
- Support ceramic forming processes such as tape casting, pressing, extrusion, injection moulding, and machining. Develop structure-property relationships and provide material inputs to design and new product development teams.
- Define and control sintering, firing, and thermal processing, PVD & CVD process parameters to achieve consistent material properties.
- Troubleshoot process-related defects (warpage, cracking, porosity, delamination, shrinkage variation).
- Contribute to Intellectual Property and filings.
Manufacturing & Production Support
- Provide day-to-day engineering support for high-volume EMS production lines involving ceramic components.
- Improve yield, cycle time, and cost through process optimization and standardization.
- Support DFM/DFA reviews for ceramic-based electronic components and assemblies.
- Interface with suppliers for raw materials, green bodies, and finished ceramic parts.
Quality & Reliability
- Perform material characterization and failure analysis (microstructure, density, grain size, dielectric strength, thermal conductivity).
- Support reliability testing (thermal cycling, high-temperature aging, humidity, mechanical strength).
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions using tools such as 8D, FMEA, SPC, and DOE.
- Ensure compliance with customer and internal quality standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with cross functional teams such as NPI, Production & Supplier Development Teams to integrate ceramic and related solutions.
- Support NPI (New Product Introduction) activities from prototype to mass production.
- Assist customers with technical documentation, material selection, and process validation.
Qualification:
- Education: MTech/MS/PhD Ceramic Engineering with Material Science and Engineering background
- Industry experience: 03-08 years; Industrial experience in ceramics processing, characterization & testing in industry
- Experience of successful product development and commercialization, supporting NPI & NPD activities
- Expertise in experimental techniques for material compositional analysis, characterization, mechanical & functional testing of materials.
