Role: Senior Manager, Data Science & Analytics Search Product Analytics Lead
Overview
We are seeking a
Senior Manager / Lead Data Scientist to own the
Search Product Analytics function at eBay. In this role, you will partner closely with the
Search product and engineering teams, using eBay's vast data ecosystem to uncover insights, influence the Search roadmap, and drive customer-centric innovation across our marketplace.
You will manage a team of data scientists, champion experimentation excellence, and develop analytics strategy for one of eBay's most critical user experiences Search. This role combines
hands-on analytics depth,
strategic impact, and
leadership responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Analytics Leadership
- Serve as the analytics leader for eBay's Search product, setting the vision for data-driven decision-making and influencing long-term strategy.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Business collaborators to define success metrics, establish analytical frameworks, and guide prioritization.
- Lead the end-to-end analytics roadmap for Search from opportunity sizing and hypothesis generation to measurement, experimentation, and impact evaluation.
- Experimentation & Measurement
- Develop, implement, and interpret A/B tests and causal inference studies to evaluate new Search experiences, ranking models, and personalization algorithms.
- Translate complex analytical outcomes into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
- Promote standard processes in experimental design, metric definition, and statistical rigor across teams.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing analytics team; develop career paths and champion a culture of curiosity, rigor, and impact.
- Partner with recruiting and analytics leadership to attract and retain top analytical talent.
- Provide coaching and technical mentorship to ensure consistent analytic quality and scalability across projects.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as the analytics link between Search, Personalization, Ads, and Buyer Experience teams to ensure well-rounded understanding of user intent and behavior.
- Drive alignment across product areas, ensuring consistent measurement standards and shared findings.
- Advocate for data democratization by building intuitive reporting, self-serve tools, and metric documentation.
- Operational & Execution Excellence
- Evaluate feature and experiment performance, ensuring decisions are rooted in robust data analysis.
- Enable rapid insight generation through automation and scalable experimentation pipelines.
- Continuously improve analytical workflows and frameworks for speed and reliability.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience in product analytics, data science, or experimentation roles; 2+ years leading analytics teams.
- Strong command of A/B testing design, causal inference, and experimentation measurement.
- Deep expertise in SQL, Python/R, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
- Strong foundation in statistics, machine learning fundamentals, and data-driven hypothesis testing.
- Proven record of delivering insights that drive measurable business and product impact.
- Able to translate data into actionable narratives and influence senior executives.
- Known to work in highly matrixed, cross-functional environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, etc.).
- Experience in Search, Ranking, or Personalization analytics within e-commerce or digital marketplaces.
- Familiarity with big data platforms, experimentation frameworks, and LLM/AI tools
- Experience building or influencing data and metric infrastructure for large-scale experimentation systems.
- Strong presentation and partner management skills, with ability to influence at VP+ levels.
