Role Summary

Help shape how athenahealth teams build software in an AI-first environment by defining and delivering tools and solutions that improve developer experience, software security controls, and software quality across the SDLC. The Senior Product Manager will identify, prioritize, and deliver initiatives spanning software security controls and developer/AI tools (e.g., AI coding assistants, AI agents, MCPs, and related DevTools), driving measurable outcomes through strong product strategy and execution. This role is based in Bengaluru, India in a hybrid work model and partners closely with engineering, internal platform teams, and R&D stakeholders. The role reports to the Product Management Director.

Team Summary

The role sits within athenahealth's Internal Developer Platform organization, and partners across the R&D Experience charter to improve developer experience and increase developer productivity using tools and services. The organization is responsible for identifying, implementing, and driving adoption of tools that improve engineering productivity, software quality, and developer experience across R&D. By combining product thinking, technical understanding, experimentation, and outcome measurement, the role ensures tool investments translate into meaningful improvements in speed, quality, and engineering effectiveness, working closely with product, engineering, and R&D partners to understand needs, guide adoption, and continuously optimize outcomes.

Essential Job Responsibilities

. Define product strategy and roadmap priorities for initiatives that improve developer productivity, software quality and additionally software security in an AI-first environment, including AI-enabled developer tools and software security controls.

. Manage backlog and scope for cross-cutting platform initiatives, ensuring prioritization aligns to business value, user needs, technical feasibility, and measurable impact.

. Partner with engineering management to orchestrate delivery across pod structures, including planning, dependency management, sequencing, and release coordination.

. Lead discovery, evaluation, and experimentation for AI coding assistants, AI agents, MCPs, AI skills, and related capabilities, including how security controls are supported/operationalized in these workflows.

. Engage R&D stakeholders to understand workflow pain points, capture requirements, and drive adoption strategies that improve utilization and outcomes.

. Establish and monitor success metrics across adoption, usage, quality, productivity, and operational impact to guide iteration and investment.

. Translate developer experience needs into clear product requirements, user stories, and outcome-oriented execution plans aligned to an AI DLC mindset.

Additional Job Responsibilities

. Partner with InfoSec, evaluate vendor offerings, market trends, and emerging practices in overall product security.

. Implement software security controls and mechanisms by working across strategic technical teams such as dev and AI tools, unified pipelines to aid improvement of athena's overall information security posture.

. AI-assisted development and internal developer platforms, including security-relevant practices.

. Support rollout readiness through communications, enablement materials, stakeholder updates, and structured feedback loops.

. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align initiatives with platform strategy, governance, security, and operational standards.

. Identify opportunities to simplify developer workflows and reduce friction across the software delivery lifecycle while maintaining appropriate security controls.

. Facilitate discussions to clarify tradeoffs, resolve priority conflicts, and maintain focus on intended outcomes.

. Document product decisions, hypotheses, success criteria, and learnings from pilots and scaled implementations.

Expected Education & Experience

. 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in product management, platform product management, developer tools, enterprise software, or related domains.

. Demonstrated knowledge of AI-first product thinking, including AI coding assistants, AI agents, MCPs, AI skills, and AI-assisted software delivery workflows.

. Experience managing products or capabilities related to developer productivity, software quality, internal platforms, or DevTools experience in capabilities spanning software security controls (noting this JD's scope).

. Experience with backlog management, scope management, prioritization, roadmap planning, and delivery coordination in partnership with engineering.

. Experience driving experimentation, adoption, and outcome measurement for tools and workflows.

. Understanding of developer experience product thinking and engineering user needs across the software development lifecycle.

. Ability to define metrics, interpret results, and use data to guide decisions, tradeoffs, and product iteration.

. Experience working with R&D stakeholders and cross-functional teams in agile or pod-based delivery models.

. Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
