Senior Localization Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain localization tools, scripts, and automated workflows to support translation of software, websites, apps, and multimedia content.
• Prepare localization kits, extract translatable content, and reintegrate localized content into builds.
• Implement internationalization (i18n) best practices in collaboration with software engineers and QA teams.
• Analyze and debug localization-related issues in source code and content pipelines.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, product, design, QA, and linguists to optimize localization processes.
• Own the technical integration of Translation Management Systems (TMS) like Phrase, Smartling, Lokalise, or XTM.
• Ensure proper use of translation memory (TM), termbases (TB), and content segmentation rules.
• Evaluate and implement tools for machine translation (MT), quality assurance, and content validation.
• Lead or contribute to localization automation and CI/CD pipeline integration.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to documentation and training.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Linguistics, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in localization engineering or software internationalization.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Bash.
• Solid understanding of localization file formats (e.g., JSON, XML, PO, XLIFF, RESX, ARB, SRT).
• Experience with TMS platforms and CAT tools (e.g., memoQ, SDL Trados, Smartcat).
• Familiarity with internationalization libraries and Unicode/character encoding standards.

Preferred:

• Experience with software development in a commercial environment (e.g., Git, Jira, Agile/Scrum).
• Knowledge of CI/CD systems (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
• Experience with REST APIs for TMS integration.
• Familiarity with accessibility, bidirectional languages (RTL), and multilingual QA processes.
