URGENT HIRING - Executive Position

Profile: Leading Consultancy Firm specializing in Import-Export & Trade Compliance

Location: Mahim, Mumbai

(Office right in front of Matunga Road Station - very convenient by local train)

Role Overview

The Senior Consultant will be a core member of the firm's advisory team. The role demands a professional with strong conceptual command of GST, Customs, SEZ, and related laws - someone who is currently engaged in consultancy work, understands client advisory dynamics, and can independently research regulatory issues, form well-reasoned positions, and communicate them effectively.

This is purely an advisory and knowledge role. The firm does not engage in return filing, document preparation, or logistics coordination - and neither will this incumbent. The expectation is domain depth, analytical rigor, sound judgment, and the ability to serve as a trusted advisor to clients. In addition to advisory work, the person will oversee the day-to-day operations of the firm's practice.

Key Responsibilities

A. Firm Operations & Practice Coordination

Manage the day-to-day functioning of the consultancy practice - coordinating advisory engagements, client schedules, and team workflows to ensure smooth operations.

Ensure timely delivery of advisory opinions, regulatory updates, and client communications across all ongoing matters.

Maintain organised records of client engagements, open advisory issues, and internal knowledge resources.

Assist senior partners in workload planning, meeting preparation, and review of advisory outputs.

Build and maintain a well-structured internal repository of precedents, regulatory updates, advance rulings, and key judicial decisions for the team's reference.

B. GST & Indirect Tax Advisory

C. Customs & Foreign Trade Policy Advisory

D. Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Advisory

E. Client Management & Business Development

Act as the primary advisory contact for an assigned portfolio of clients - proactively flagging regulatory developments and providing clear, practical guidance.

Draft and present high-quality advisory notes, legal opinions, compliance strategy papers, and regulatory impact assessments.

Represent the firm in client meetings and, where relevant, in interactions with regulatory authorities - presenting the firm's advisory positions with clarity and conviction.

Support partners in preparing proposals, engagement scopes, and pitches for new client mandates.

Identify opportunities to deepen the firm's engagement with existing clients and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the practice.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Qualification

CA (Chartered Accountant), LLB, MBA (Finance / Taxation), or an equivalent professional qualification.

Specialisation or post-qualification courses in Indirect Tax, Customs Law, or Trade Regulations will be an advantage.

Work Experience

3 to 5 years of experience working in a Tax Advisory / Trade Consultancy firm - this is a firm requirement.

Demonstrated experience in client-facing advisory roles covering GST, Customs, SEZ, or FTP - with the ability to independently handle queries and produce well-reasoned advisory outputs.

Candidates with backgrounds limited to compliance execution (return filing, logistics documentation, data entry) without substantive advisory exposure will not be considered for this role.

Domain Knowledge & Skills

Strong conceptual command of the GST Act and Rules, Customs Act 1962, SEZ Act and Rules, and the Foreign Trade Policy - with the ability to apply provisions analytically to complex client situations.

Current awareness of regulatory changes, CBIC/DGFT notifications, advance rulings, and judicial/tribunal developments in indirect tax and trade law.

Excellent drafting ability - capable of producing well-structured advisory notes, opinions, and formal representations in clear English.

Sharp analytical thinking and sound legal judgment, with the ability to distil complex provisions into practical, client-ready advice.

Self-sufficient in regulatory research - comfortable working with CBIC, DGFT, SEZ India portals, and legal research databases.

Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for professional advisory deliverables.

Personal Attributes

Intellectual curiosity and a genuine passion for tax and trade law - driven to stay ahead of regulatory change.

Client-first mindset: responsive, proactive, and committed to delivering clear, practical, and well-reasoned advice.

High standards of professional integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with comfort engaging senior client stakeholders.

Well-organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple advisory mandates simultaneously.

A collaborative team member who can also work independently and take full ownership of outcomes.

What We Offer

A stimulating, knowledge-intensive environment with exposure to complex and varied advisory mandates across industries.

Direct access to and mentorship from senior partners - with genuine scope to build a strong advisory career.

Early opportunity to take on client-facing leadership and grow into a senior advisory role.

Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience and aligned to consultancy market standards.

A growing firm with clear intent - offering significant long-term professional development and advancement.

Salary: Best in the industry as per experience & interview
