Qualcomm Software Engineers collaborate with systems, hardware, architecture, test engineers, and other teams to design system-level software solutions and obtain information on performance requirements and interfaces.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

OR

Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of Software Engineering or related work experience.

OR

PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

  • 2+ years of academic or work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.

Responsible for validating the WLAN HALPHY firmware and RF performance of Qualcomm WiFi chipsets across 802.11 standards. The role focuses on factory-test mode (FTM) and mission-mode (MM) testing, RF KPIs, and regression against HW DVT baselines using automated setups and RF test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • HAL-PHY / WLAN Testing

Plan and execute HALPHY validation for new and legacy WiFi chipsets in FTM and MM.

Regress HW DVT RF tests for every software release and identify performance regressions.

Validate Core RF KPIs Including

TPC (Tx power control) accuracy

EVM, SEM, frequency error

Tx LO leakage, DPD/eDPD, Tx/Rx IQ cals

Min Rx sensitivity, MIL, RSSI accuracy

Cover runtime calibration scenarios (channel change, offchannel scan, ICM/DCS, concurrency, etc.) with and without traffic.

  • Test Automation & Tools

Develop and enhance automated test flows using QDART/QSPR or equivalent internal tools.

Configure and control RF instruments (LitePoint IQxel, Keysight, R&S, Anritsu, etc.) for FTM/MM Tx/Rx tests.

Maintain automated regression suites and analyze logs/results for large test matrices (rates, channels, bandwidths, chains, power levels).

  • Debug & Collaboration

Triage HALPHY failures and work closely with HALPHY FW, MAC/FW, HW, RF systems, and tools teams.

Use HALPHY TLV/WAL APIs and internal debug frameworks (CalDB, PHYDBG, PRDD, etc.) to isolate PHY/RF issues.

Support customerspecific use cases and feature validation (e.g., ANI, DFS, spectral scan, flexible power tables, regulatory features).

  • Infrastructure & Process

Own/maintain WiFi HALPHY testbeds (cabled setups, RF switches, chambers).

Document test plans, coverage, and results; contribute to continuous improvement of HALPHY test methodology.

Participate in release signoff by providing RF validation status and risk assessment.

Required Skills & Experience

Strong understanding of 802.11 PHY/MAC fundamentals (OFDM, MIMO, channel models, KPIs such as EVM, PER, sensitivity).

Hands-on experience with RF test equipment (signal analyzers/generators, LitePoint/Anritsu/Keysight/R&S, power meters).

Practical experience in Wi-Fi testing (FTM or production test, or system/RF validation).

Scripting skills for automation (Python/Perl/TCL or similar) and familiarity with log parsing and data analysis.

Ability to debug complex HW/FW/PHY interactions and work across multi-site teams.

Preferred / Nice To Have

Experience with Qualcomm HAL-PHY, QDART, QMSL, QRCT or equivalent internal tools.

Knowledge of calibration flows (Tx/Rx IQ, DPD, TPC, NF, Rx gain, crystal, SynthCal).

Exposure to Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 features (OFDMA, 4K/16K QAM, 6 GHz).

Familiarity with regulatory and production test requirements (DVT, factory calibration).
