About Origin
Origin (previously 10xConstruction) is building general-purpose autonomous robots for US construction to tackle rising costs, safety risks, and labour shortages. Our modular, multi-trade platform combines purpose-built hardware with real-time site intelligence to navigate complex environments and execute tasks with precision. Trained in high-fidelity simulation and already deployed on live sites, our robots deliver 5x faster execution, 250%+ margin expansion, and significant cost savings. Join India's most talent-dense robotics team consisting of individuals from IITs, Stanford, UCLA, etc.
About The Role
As a Senior Embedded Software and Controls Engineer, you will take full ownership of critical subsystems within the robot's control architecture. While the Lead Engineer sets the global architecture, you will be responsible for the detailed design, implementation, and optimization of complex control loops and hardware interfaces. You are expected to be an expert in C++ and Real-Time systems, capable of solving non-trivial synchronization and latency problems independently.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Subsystem Design & Control:
- Design and implement high-frequency control loops (1kHz+) for manipulator arms and mobile bases
- Translate high-level architectural constraints into deterministic C++ code
- Implement advanced control strategies (impedance control, force feedback) and ensure stability under varying loads
- Embedded Software & Drivers:
- Develop and optimize low-latency drivers for LiDARs, cameras, and CAN-based actuators on NVIDIA Jetson platforms
- Manage hardware interrupts, DMA, and shared memory to minimize CPU overhead
- Debug complex race conditions and timing jitters in a multi-threaded ROS 2 environment
- System Integration & Reliability:
- Lead the integration of new sensors and actuators, ensuring PTP synchronization and data validity
- Implement rigorous safety state machines and watchdog mechanisms to guarantee safe operation
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on field failures and implement robust software fixes
- Mentorship:
- Mentor Engineers and Apprentices, conducting code reviews to ensure adherence to strict quality and safety standards
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or related field
- 4-8 years of experience in embedded software or robotics
- Proficiency in embedded programming (C/C++) and firmware development
- Deep understanding of RTOS concepts (scheduling, priority inversion, memory management) and Linux kernel fundamentals
- Strong background in Control Theory
- Hands-on experience with ROS 2 (lifecycle nodes, executors, custom interfaces)
- Experience with industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, CANopen, Ethernet/TCP/UDP)
Preferred Experiences
- Development Experience on NVIDIA Jetson Series SBCs for Robotics
- Low-Level Kernel Development
