About Rekise Marine

Rekise Marine is building autonomous ships and submarines that operate in the world's most hostile environments. We're executing India's flagship autonomous submarine project the Jalkapi XLAUV on order from the Indian Navy. This is an unmanned submarine weighing over 20 tons that can travel 5,000+ kilometers autonomously and operate in the ocean for 30+ days at a time.

We're creating some of the largest autonomous robots in the world, machines with direct impact on the global economy and national security. While autonomous cars in India may still be a dream, autonomous ships and submarines are already a reality, and it is possible to build for the world from India.

The Role

We're seeking a Senior Communications Engineer to design and implement the multimodal communication systems that keep our autonomous submarines connected across all operating environments. From acoustic modems operating through kilometers of seawater to satellite links on the surface, you'll architect the communication backbone that enables mission control, data relay, and fleet coordination. This is a uniquely challenging role underwater communication pushes the limits of physics, and you'll work at the intersection of RF engineering, acoustic signal processing, and network protocol design.

Key Responsibilities

Multimodal Communication Architecture: Design and implement multimodal communication systems including acoustic modems, light-based modems, WiFi, SatCom (LEO & GEO constellations), 4G/5G, IP radios, and serial radios for unmanned marine platforms. Architect seamless handoff between communication modes as the vehicle transitions between underwater and surface operations.

Acoustic Communication Systems: Design, implement, and test acoustic communication systems for underwater vehicles. Optimize acoustic modem performance under challenging conditions including multipath propagation, Doppler effects, ambient noise, and limited bandwidth.

Communication Link Engineering: Develop and maintain tethered and wireless communication links for reliable AUV/ASV operations. Design link budgets, ensure adequate margins, and implement error correction and adaptive modulation schemes for mission-critical reliability.

Performance Testing & Optimization: Conduct variability and performance testing of communication systems in dynamic marine environments including multipath, turbidity, depth variations, and acoustic shadow zones. Build test frameworks for systematic performance characterization.

Protocol & QoS Optimization: Optimize protocols, bandwidth allocation, and Quality of Service (QoS) settings for real-time mission-critical data exchange. Design efficient data compression and prioritization schemes for bandwidth-limited underwater links.

System Integration: Collaborate with autonomy, perception, control, and mission planning teams to ensure seamless communication system integration. Define communication APIs, data formats, and latency requirements for each subsystem.

Required Qualifications

B.Tech/M.Tech/M.S. in Electronics, Telecommunications, Ocean Engineering, Signal Processing, or related field from a recognized institution.

5+ years of experience in embedded communications systems, preferably in marine, defense, or aerospace environments.

Proficiency in C++/Python with experience in real-time networking and low-level driver development.

Understanding of acoustic communication principles, underwater channel modeling, and signal processing.

Familiarity with ROS2 networking, DDS (Data Distribution Service), and middleware optimization for autonomous systems.

Experience with RF communication systems including satellite communication, cellular networks, and radio links.

Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, custom protocols) and QoS management.

Preferred Experience

Hands-on experience with real-world Autonomous Systems (AGV/AUV/UAV/ASV), field trials, and deployments.

Background in system-level testing and validation under harsh marine conditions.

Experience with acoustic modem systems (EvoLogics, Teledyne Benthos, Sonardyne, or similar).

Knowledge of underwater acoustic propagation modeling and simulation.

Why Join Rekise Marine

Solve the Hardest Communication Problem: Underwater communication is one of the most challenging engineering problems in robotics. You'll work at the physical limits of acoustic, optical, and electromagnetic propagation, problems that the world's best engineers are still solving.

Mission Impact: Reliable communication is the lifeline of autonomous submarine operations. Your systems determine whether we can command, control, and receive data from a vehicle operating thousands of kilometers away.

Technical Ownership: As the communications engineer, you'll architect the entire communication stack from scratch

Benefits: Competitive compensation and Health Insurance
