Role Overview:
We are looking for a passionate Design Engineer with experience in mechanical and/or electrical design of lithium-ion battery packs and modules with experience in ESS/BESS and exposure in EV's. You will be responsible for translating technical requirements into robust, manufacturable designs and play a key role in developing safe, high-performance energy storage products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical enclosures, module casings, busbars, and harness layouts for lithium-ion battery packs.
- Create 2D/3D CAD models and detailed drawings using tools like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar software.
- Collaborate with R&D and production teams to ensure design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and ease of assembly.
- Develop wiring diagrams, cell arrangements, and structural layouts ensuring thermal and electrical safety.
- Integrate design inputs from BMS, cooling systems, safety standards, and certification requirements (UN38.3, AIS, IEC).
- Conduct tolerance analysis, material selection, and thermal/structural validation in coordination with simulation team.
- Support prototyping, validation testing, and iterate designs based on test feedback and production learnings.
- Maintain BOMs and coordinate with supply chain for component specifications and vendor interactions.
Qualifications:
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering. Postgraduate degree is a plus.
- Experience: 4-5 years of experience in BESS/ESS design or closely related electro-mechanical systems, with exposure to EV's
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, etc.).
- Understanding of battery module design, cell layout strategies (LFP), thermal management, and safety compliance.
- Familiarity with GD&T, FEA basics, and sheet metal/plastic part design.
- Soft Skills:
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and meet tight project timelines.
- Good documentation and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience working with LFP cell suppliers (BYD, CATL, EVE, etc.).
- Exposure to design validation through FEA/thermal simulation tools.
- Understanding of electrical schematics, PCB layouts, and BMS integration (for hybrid roles).
