Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to manage a team of designers/engineers to deliver high quality, cost effective, and timely engineering solutions to customers. Each day, you will formulate plans and allocate resources to meet the agreed contractual and financial targets. You will also showcase your expertise by initiating, coordinating, driving, and overseeing team development and continual improvement of processes and procedures to strengthen the engineering and design capability.

This role involves leading the design and development of robotic automation systems for all General Industry and Consumer Industry Applications, while also supporting cross-functional collaboration across customer, supplier, and commissioning teams.

This role is contributing to the ABB Robotics in Bangalore.

You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Develop engineering design concepts, define design philosophy, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures. Review designs with the customer/project team to obtain required approvals, and provide technical support during testing, installation, and commissioning.
  • Create and manage design work plans within the assigned scope, ensuring timely delivery of engineering outputs.
  • Utilize tools such as SolidWorks, Catia V5, and AutoCAD for designing, and promote standard libraries while proposing new solutions when necessary.
  • Conduct technical discussions with customers, prepare project layouts in AutoCAD, and design mechanical equipment/systems based on project requirements.
  • Prepare cycle time charts, DAP documents, and secure customer approvals ensure high‑quality manufacturing drawings and accurate Bills of Material.
  • Select suitable bought‑out components (e.g., gears, bearings, motors, pneumatic items, LM rails) and validate that designed equipment meets customer performance expectations.

Qualifications for the role
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from a Reputed college or University.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in robotic palletization of carton boxes, paint buckets, depalletization application, Arc welding, Secondary case packing which includes End of Arm of robot, roller Conveyors, belt conveyors SPM Fixture, Material Handling equipment.
  • Should have expertise in General Industry, consumer industry and Pharma industry Automation projects.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA
  • Simulation software such as Robot Studio will be an added advantage.
  • Proven experience in identifying and selecting Standard Mechanical, Electrical and Pneumatic elements.
  • Good written & oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of Planning and scheduling of design projects is must.
  • Possess proactive approach, good analytical, presentation and problem solving and skills.
  • Good team handling Skills. Managing projects, Commitments, Quality management.
  • In-depth Knowledge on PFMEA / DFMEA will be an added advantage
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing practices.
  • Coordination with 3rd Party vendors (Design house, Manufacturing, Bought-out parts suppliers etc)
  • Willingness to travel for project execution and customer support on need basis.
