About the Team
At slice, our Data team powers everything, from real-time transactions to ML-driven decisions. We operate at high scale, high concurrency, and strict reliability expectations.

About the Role
We're hiring a Senior Database Engineer to design and operate next-generation distributed database systems.
This role will focus on building and scaling systems using CockroachDB, while evolving existing workloads from Amazon RDS and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
What You Will Do
- Own and operate CockroachDB clusters (HA, multi-region setups)
- Drive migration from MS-SQL, PostgreSQL (RDS/Aurora) to CockroachDB
- Ensure high availability, strong consistency, and DR readiness
- Optimize performance (queries, indexing, workload distribution)
- Automate database infrastructure using Terraform / Ansible
- Build monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices
- Partner with developers on schema design and query optimization
- Reliable distributed database platform in production
- Smooth migration of critical workloads with minimal downtime
- Strong HA/DR posture aligned with business SLAs
- Improved performance and developer experience
What You Will Need
- 5+ years in database engineering / DBA roles
- Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL at production scale.
- Must have Hands-on experience with CockroachDB
- Solid understanding of:
- Distributed systems (replication, consistency, fault tolerance)
- Performance tuning and query optimization
- Backup, recovery, and DR strategies
- Experience with AWS database ecosystem (RDS, Aurora)
- Experience with monitoring and incident management
Good to Have
- Security and compliance exposure (PAM/DAM, auditing)
- Experience with multi-region architectures
- Exposure to CDC pipelines (Debezium, DMS)
- Experience with DynamoDB, Redis, OpenSearch, etc.
