Senior Database Administrator

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of hands-on professional Database Administration experience.
• Strong Microsoft SQL Server administration experience.
• Strong PostgreSQL and MySQL experience.
• Experience supporting both cloud-managed and self-hosted databases.
• Hands-on experience with AWS database technologies, particularly Amazon RDS.
• Experience administering databases in Microsoft Azure.
• Strong understanding of SQL, database architecture, query execution plans, indexing, query optimization, statistics, locking and blocking, deadlocks, transactions, backup and recovery, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, database security, and capacity planning.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and optimize slow-performing SQL queries.
• Experience working directly with software developers to resolve application and database performance issues.
• Experience with Liquibase or similar database schema migration and version-management technology.
• Experience with database monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog.
• Working knowledge of cloud database security and networking.
• Strong troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) skills.
• Experience creating technical documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.
• Should be ready to work in US shifts (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM U.S. Central Time, Monday through Friday).

Primary Objectives of the Role

The key objectives for this consulting engagement are to:

1. Maintain and stabilize database environments.
2. Provide strong production DBA and troubleshooting support.
3. Improve database performance and work collaboratively with developers on query optimization.
4. Strengthen database backup, recovery, HA, and DR processes.
5. Improve database monitoring and observability using technologies such as Datadog.
6. Modernize database schema deployment through Liquibase and CI/CD automation.
7. Document database architecture, operational processes, and support procedures.
8. Create repeatable DBA runbooks and Standard Operating Procedures.
9. Transfer DBA knowledge and operational responsibilities to HALO's internal technology team.
10. Reduce long-term dependency on external DBA resources through documentation, automation, standardization, and knowledge transfer.
