Job Title: Sr. Database Administrator
Location: Insurance Information of Bureau of India, Hyderabad
Reports To: Head of IT Infrastructure Operations
Job Summary and Experience: The Database administrator is responsible for the Installation, configuration and Administration of Databases as per the IIB / business requirements. We are looking for experienced DBA professional having overall 12+ years of IT experience with a min of 8 Years experience as DB administrator in a reputed organization.
Primary Skills
- Deep technical proficiency in Database management, including expertise in database design mainly on MSSQL, MySQL and PostgreSQL
- Candidates with experience on working with other open-source non-SQL Databases such as Apache Kafka & Cassandra, MongoDB, etc will be preferred
- Knowledge of server operating systems and hardware components
- Effective Troubleshooting, communication and problem-solving abilities
- Experience in backup/recovery of databases
- Familiarity with performance tuning and database optimization
- Understanding of cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database)
- Excellent work experience on MSSQL administration, Finetuning of DB, DB Security aspects (Encryption, etc)
- Work experience of implementing HA & DR solutions in both MSSQL and Postgres / Open source Databases
- Work experience of migrating MSSQL to Postgres or other open source Databases
- Ready to work from office (5 days a week) and if required during weekends
Key Responsibilities
Database Management:
- Install, configure, and upgrade database software and tools
- Monitor database performance and perform regular tuning
- Configure and manage automation of tasks
- Create and finetune databases as per the requirements of Internal stakeholders (product development / primary functions) / Insurers
Data Integrity And Availability
- Ensure high availability of databases and minimize downtime
- Manage data replication and mirroring as needed
- Plan and configure a high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) environment
Data Security
- Implement data security policies to safeguard sensitive information
- Conduct regular backups and disaster recovery planning
Performance Optimization
- Monitor and optimize the performance of database systems
- Resolve performance bottlenecks and improve query efficiency
- Using DMVs, SQL Profiler, Extended Events to solve long running queries, performance issues
User Access And Roles
- Define and manage user roles, permissions, and access levels
- Address issues related to data access and connectivity
Database Design And Development
- Collaborate with developers to design and implement efficient database solutions
- Assist in database schema design and data modelling
- Experience in DB migrations (MSSQL to other opensource databases such as PostgreSQL or MongoDB, etc) wherever required
Compliance And Documentation
- Ensure databases meet compliance standards and industry regulations
- Document database configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures
- Other duties as assigned by Head of IT Infrastructure from time to time
Incident Management
- Respond to and resolve database-related incidents and service requests as per the defined SLA
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues and apply permanent fixes
Preferred Certifications And Skills
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
- AWS Certified Database – Specialty
Work Environment
- May require occasional on-call / weekend availability for database-related emergencies. Ability to work under pressure.
- Collaborate with Primary Functions, System Admins and Developers to provide the right solutions.
