Role Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Azure Databricks Architect / Tech Lead to design and govern scalable data platforms for enterprise use cases, especially across SAP and supply chain domains.
This role involves owning the end-to-end data architecture, setting platform standards, guiding engineering teams, and ensuring the data platform is scalable, governed, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards. The role is best suited for someone who can balance architecture thinking with hands-on problem solving and make practical decisions in real-world environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement end-to-end data architecture using Azure Databricks
- Define and standardize data layers (bronze / silver / gold), platform conventions, and architectural blueprints
- Define the architectural roadmap for migrating from legacy ETL to modern lakehouse architecture
- Oversee and review data pipeline design built by engineering teams, ensuring quality, performance, and standards compliance
- Collaborate with SAP teams to define data models and integration patterns for enterprise data
- Ensure performance, scalability, and cost efficiency of data workloads
- Define and enforce cloud architecture standards, naming conventions, and platform governance across the data estate
- Implement data quality checks, governance, access control mechanisms, and data lineage practices
- Guide and review work of data engineers, ensuring adherence to coding and design standards
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Troubleshoot complex data and performance issues in production environments
Required Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering and architecture, with strong hands-on experience in Databricks
- Proven ability to define data platform standards, governance frameworks, and architectural blueprints
- Experience with Azure-native services - ADLS Gen2, ADF, Synapse, Azure Purview, Key Vault, and RBAC
- Solid understanding of data modeling (lakehouse + reporting layers)
- Experience designing for security, data lineage, and compliance (role-based access, data cataloguing)
- Strong SQL and performance tuning skills
- Experience working with SAP data (ECC, S/4HANA, BW, or similar)
- Proven experience in designing and owning end-to-end data architectures
- Ability to lead teams and guide technical decisions
Nice-to-Have
- Strong expertise in PySpark and distributed data processing
- Experience with Snowflake
- Exposure to streaming pipelines (Kafka, Event Hub)
- Experience with CI/CD and version-controlled data pipelines
- Understanding of supply chain data (orders, inventory, logistics)
- Exposure to ML/AI workflows (data preparation for forecasting or ML models)
- Experience setting up reusable frameworks or templates
