Main Purpose
The Business Analyst will be responsible for delivering robust economic analysis and valuation support for upstream oil and gas opportunities. The role involves building integrated economic models, maintaining scenario sensitivities, and providing decisiongrade insights to guide investment committees and executive leadership. By validating assumptions, defining bid/offer guidance, and tracking postdeal value drivers, the Petroleum Economist ensures accurate forecasting, optimized risk allocation, and enhanced portfolio performance.
Job Accountabilities (duties and responsibilities).
- Well aware of the valuation practices and methodologies prevalent in E&P business.
- Lead and/or be part of the multidisciplinary team for conducting the due diligence.
- Knowledge of taking the required inputs from the exploration and developments plans and experts.
- Build integrated economic models (DCF/EMV) and establish valuation ranges for opportunities.
- Maintain scenarios and sensitivities across price, capex, schedule, volumes, and fiscal terms etc.
- Define walkaway price, bid/offer guidance, and valuedriver dashboards for top management
- Validate assumptions with technical teams, ensuring model auditability, transparency, and version control.
- Deliver timely and consistent economic analysis across multiple opportunities.
- Provide clear economic insights to support investment decisions and portfolio optimization.
- Proposed innovative ways and commercial proposals for managing the roadblocks for the deals.
- Be ready with practical ideas for getting the value enhanced for the deal.
- Keep a track of value impacting elements post deal also and support postdeal value tracking by mapping investment thesis to measurable drivers
Skills Required (Knowledge and Skills)
- Strong expertise in petroleum economics and upstream valuation.
- Advanced financial modelling skills (Excel, DCF, EMV).
- Deep understanding of fiscal regimes and contractual frameworks.
- Analytical communication skills to present complex economic insights clearly.
- Ability to manage sensitivities, scenarios, and risked valuations.
- Attention to detail with focus on auditability and consistency.
- Collaborative mindset to work closely with technical and commercial teams.
Qualification & Experience
- Graduate/Postgraduate degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, or related discipline.
- 812 years of experience in petroleum economics and valuation.
- Proven track record in building and maintaining advanced financial models.
- Strong knowledge of upstream oil & gas fiscal regimes and commercial structures.
- Experience in supporting investment decisions and postdeal value tracking.
- Exposure to international upstream projects and multijurisdictional fiscal terms preferred.
