Job Description

HIGH SCHOOL MOMS (GIDE.AI) is a premier college admissions consulting organization specializing in placements at the world's most selective universities, including all eight Ivy League schools, Ivy Plus institutions (Stanford, MIT, Duke, UChicago, etc.), Oxbridge (Oxford and Cambridge), and other top-tier universities globally. Our clients are high-achieving students seeking expert guidance to craft compelling applications that showcase their unique stories, intellectual vitality, and potential for impact.

We pride ourselves on delivering transformative, personalized support that elevates every aspect of the application process. Our team consists of experienced admissions professionals who combine deep institutional knowledge with exceptional writing and editing expertise.

Position Overview

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Application Mentor/Editor & Content Specialist to join our team. This role is critical to our mission of helping students tell their stories with authenticity, clarity, and impact. You will work directly with high-achieving students to transform their application essays and written materials into polished, compelling narratives that resonate with admissions committees at the world's most selective institutions.

This is not a proofreading role. As a Senior Application Mentor/Editor, you will serve as a thought partner, storytelling expert, and content architect who helps students discover their authentic voice, develop powerful narratives, and craft essays that stand out in highly competitive applicant pools. You will need a deep understanding of what top universities seek in application essays, supplemental responses, and personal statements across different admissions contexts (US Common App, UC Application, UK UCAS, and university-specific applications).

The ideal candidate combines exceptional writing and editing skills with a genuine passion for helping students grow as writers and thinkers. You will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of quality across all written deliverables while preserving each student's unique voice and perspective.

Key Responsibilities

1. Essay Development & Editing

Guide students through the complete essay development process from brainstorming to final draft for Common Application personal essays, UC Application essays, UK Personal Statements, and university-specific supplemental essays

Conduct in-depth brainstorming sessions to help students identify compelling essay topics, authentic experiences, and meaningful themes that showcase their intellectual curiosity, character, and potential

Provide substantive developmental editing that transforms drafts into powerful narratives while maintaining the student's authentic voice

Offer line-by-line feedback on structure, flow, word choice, specificity, and impact

Ensure essays are free of clichs, generic statements, and common pitfalls that weaken applications

Review and polish activity descriptions (Common App activities list, honors/awards, additional information sections) to maximize impact within strict character limits

2. University-Specific Essay Expertise

Demonstrate expert knowledge of essay requirements, prompts, and expectations across multiple application platforms and universities (Common App, UC Application, MIT application portal, UK UCAS, etc.)

Craft tailored supplemental essay responses that demonstrate genuine fit with specific universities while avoiding generic or formulaic approaches

Understand institutional priorities and cultural nuances of different universities (e.g., MIT's maker culture, Yale's intellectual playfulness, Stanford's impact focus, Oxford's academic rigor)

Stay current on evolving essay prompts, format changes (such as the new UK UCAS Personal Statement structure), and admissions trends

Provide specialized guidance for UK applications, including Oxbridge Personal Statements that emphasize academic passion and subject-specific engagement

3. Student Coaching & Mentorship

Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions (virtual or in-person) to help students develop their writing skills, self-reflection abilities, and storytelling techniques

Ask probing questions that help students articulate their experiences, values, and aspirations with depth and authenticity

Build students confidence as writers and help them develop independent critical thinking about their own narratives

Provide constructive, encouraging feedback that motivates students while maintaining high standards

Manage multiple essay revision cycles efficiently while meeting tight deadlines during peak application season

4. Quality Assurance & Content Excellence

Maintain the highest standards of writing quality across all student deliverables

Ensure all content is grammatically flawless, stylistically polished, and free of errors

Verify that essays meet all technical requirements (word counts, character limits, formatting specifications)

Identify and eliminate plagiarism, AI-generated content.

Conduct final quality checks before submission to ensure every application component is polished and compelling

5. Strategic Collaboration

Collaborate closely with Admissions Strategists and Senior Strategists to ensure essay content aligns with each student's overall application strategy and positioning.

Provide input on strategic decisions about which experiences or themes should be emphasized in different essays.

Coordinate with Student Success Managers to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery of essay drafts.

Contribute to team discussions about essay trends, effective approaches, and lessons learned from successful applications.

6. Professional Development & Continuous Improvement

Stay informed about admissions trends, successful essay strategies, and changes in application requirements.

Participate in professional development opportunities related to college admissions, writing instruction, and counseling.

Share successful essay examples and best practices with the team (while maintaining student confidentiality)
