Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior API Gateway engineer & Middleware Administrator with 10-12 years of experience to architect, develop, and manage our API gateway and enterprise middleware infrastructure. This role combines strong demonstrated hands-on development expertise in Lua and Python with deep operational knowledge of Kong API Gateway and enterprise middleware platforms.

Job Requirements

As a key member of our Platform Engineering team, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing custom Kong plugins using Lua/Python to implement complex business logic, security policies, and integrations
  • Administering Kong Gateway infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability
  • Managing enterprise middleware platforms including Oracle Fusion, NGINX, and application servers
  • Building CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps for automated deployment of Kong plugins and middleware components
  • Architecting API and integration solutions that power our microservices ecosystem

The ideal candidate is a technical expert who thrives at the intersection of development and operations, possesses strong coding skills in Lua and Python, has proven experience managing enterprise middleware at scale, and brings a DevOps mindset to automate and optimize platform operations.

Must Have Skills

  • Kong Plugin Development (2+ years) - MANDATORY
  • Strong demonstrated experience in custom Kong plugin development using Lua, Python and Kong PDK
  • Strong demonstrated experience in Kong lifecycle management
  • Authentication, authorization, transformation, traffic control, and logging plugins
  • Plugin testing, debugging, optimization, versioning, and deployment
  • Kong Administration (2+ years) - MANDATORY
  • Kong Gateway installation, configuration, and administration
  • Architecture, clustering, HA, and load balancing
  • Kong Admin API, and best practices
  • Service/route/upstream/consumer/plugin management
  • Performance tuning, SSL/TLS management, upgrades, monitoring
  • Development (3+ years) - MANDATORY
  • Strong demonstrated experience in Lua, Python, Kong SDK and Java
  • Microservices, async programming (asyncio), and database connectivity
  • Message queue integration (RabbitMQ, Kafka), and Azure SDK
  • Middleware automation, ETL scripts, and monitoring solutions
  • Testing and code quality
  • Middleware Administration (2+ years) - MANDATORY

App/Web Servers:


  • Tomcat/Nginx/IIS/JBoss: Installation, configuration, deployment, tuning, and load balancing
  • CI/CD Pipeline Development (3+ years) - Preferred
  • CI/CD pipelines for Kong plugins and middleware
  • Automated build/test/deployment, multi-environment strategies
  • Quality gates, security scanning, deployment strategies

Education

IC - Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience.Mgr & Exec - Typically requires a minimum of 6 years of related experience.
