Ganguly & Company is a technology consulting firm that partners with innovative startups to build exceptional products. We're currently seeking an AI Engineer to join a product team we're building for our client, HootieLife.

About HootieLife

HootieLife is a mobile health app with 3 AI companions that help users with nutrition, mental wellness, and fitness. Each AI has a distinct personality and specialized skills, and we need an engineer to bring those skills to life.

The Role

We're looking for an AI Engineer to implement and maintain our AI skill system. You'll build the tools that let our AI personas actually do things log workouts, track moods, analyze nutrition, suggest recipes, and much more.

Currently we have 16 skills implemented. We're building 50 total. You'll own this entire system.

What You'll Do

- Implement AI tool functions using Vercel AI SDK (50+ planned skills)

- Improve tool calling reliability (AI currently sometimes calls wrong tools)

- Optimize context management for long conversations

- Build tools for all 3 personas: Hootie (nutrition), Luna (mental health), Rex (fitness)

- Handle edge cases gracefully (missing data, API failures, user errors)

- Work with Prompt Engineer on how tools integrate with persona behavior

- Debug and improve existing 16 tools

What We're Looking For

Must Have

- 6+ years TypeScript/Node.js/Python experience

- 3+ years hands-on AI/LLM experience

- Experience with LangChain, Vercel AI SDK, or similar

- Built AI agents with function calling / tool use

- LLM API experience (OpenAI, Claude)

-**Excellent prompt engineering skills** system prompts, few-shot, chain-of-thought, adversarial prompting, meta-prompting, etc.

- Can debug complex AI behavior issues (wrong tool calls, context issues)

- Multi-agent system experience

Nice to Have

- Health/wellness domain experience

Example Skills You'll Build

- `log_workout` Record a user's exercise session

- `track_mood` Log emotional state with context

- `suggest_recipe` Recommend recipes based on dietary preferences

- `get_fitness_trends` Analyze workout patterns over time

- `start_guided_breathing` Trigger a breathing exercise

Tech Stack

- Runtime: Node.js 20+

- Language: TypeScript 5.8

- AI: Vercel AI SDK 5.0, others

- Database: PostgreSQL + Drizzle ORM

- Voice: ElevenLabs, LiveKit

Compensation & Details

- Rate: $30-50/hour depending on experience

- Type: Full-time contractor (40 hours/week)

- Location: Remote (Asia timezone preferred, flexible)

- Start: Immediately
