Job Description

As a Senior AI/Data Science Engineer at Medtronic, you'll be a vital part of our data engineering team, responsible for deploying, monitoring, and supporting our cutting-edge data mart platform. You'll leverage your expertise in Big Data technologies, cloud platforms (AWS), and automation to build scalable solutions that directly impact patient lives. A Day in the Life

You will drive data platform excellence and innovation by:

  • Working independently under limited supervision to deliver robust solutions.
  • Implementing CI/CD patterns for deploying and administering the data platform, ensuring efficient and reliable releases.
  • Setting up proactive monitoring and alerting systems to maintain platform health and address issues swiftly.
  • Creating automation to enable a self-service model for developers, enhancing productivity and agility.
  • Troubleshooting production issues with a strong problem-solving mindset, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Using platform metrics to provide guidance on right-sizing infrastructure, optimizing performance and cost.
  • Collaborating with IT and business partners to identify opportunities for improving existing processes and driving continuous enhancements.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior engineers, fostering growth and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Creating tools and automating operational tasks to integrate the data platform with external systems.
  • Participating in a 24x7 on-call rotation to ensure continuous platform uptime.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 5 years of experience.
  • Ability to take business requirements and work independently to deliver solutions using industry best practices.
  • Strong security and data-privacy mindset.
  • Core Python experience (Mandatory).
  • Hands-on experience using Big Data Technologies like HDFS, Hive, and PySpark.
  • Hands-on experience using Job Orchestration tools, preferably Airflow / Oozie.
  • Strong Expertise in writing SQL Queries.
  • 1-2 years of experience in AWS and AWS native tools such as S3, Glue, Lambda, EMR, Athena, and Step Functions.
  • Experience with Source Control systems like Git/GitHub.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience automating routine tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication & presentation skills.

Nice to Have

  • AWS Certified Data Engineer.
  • Working experience in CI/CD processes and tools like Azure DevOps.
  • Working knowledge on IaC (Infrastructure as Code) tools like Terraform.
  • Previous healthcare industry experience.
  • Experience working with CI/CD tools (beyond Azure DevOps).
  • Other AWS certifications.
