THE ROLEWe're not looking for someone who just records transactions. We need a strategic finance partner who can:
- Build robust financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow) that tell the real story of our business
- Analyze data to identify what's working, what's losing money, and where to double down
- Provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial insights that shape our strategy
- Help us make smarter decisions about product mix, channel allocation, and capital deployment
- Be the voice of financial discipline while supporting aggressive growth
This is a hands-on role where you'll own the entire financial reporting function while working directly with founders to build a data-driven company.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESFinancial Reporting & Analysis (60%)Build & Maintain Financial Statements:
- Prepare accurate monthly Balance Sheets, P&L Statements, and Cash Flow Statements.
- Ensure all revenue (Shopify, Amazon, Flipkart) and expenses (COGS, marketing, operations) are properly tracked.
- Reconcile bank accounts, inventory, and platform payouts.
- Maintain general ledger and chart of accounts.
Performance Analytics:
- Weekly Reports: Revenue by channel (Shopify/Amazon/Flipkart), top-performing SKUs, cash position, urgent issues
- Monthly Reports: Detailed P&L by product line, gross margin analysis, operating expenses breakdown, YoY/MoM trends
- Quarterly Reports: Strategic business review with comprehensive financial analysis, variance analysis, forecasts vs. actuals
Product-Level Profitability:
- Track profitability by SKU (products/ categories)
- Calculate true COGS including manufacturing costs, packaging, and shipping
- Identify high-margin heroes vs. low-margin products
- Recommend pricing strategies and product mix optimization
Channel Performance Analysis:
- Compare profitability across Shopify (D2C), Amazon, and Flipkart
- Factor in platform fees, advertising costs, and customer acquisition costs
- Recommend capital allocation across channels based on ROI
Strategic Support & Insights (30%)Data-Driven Recommendations:
- Identify which products/channels to scale vs. discontinue
- Highlight cost-saving opportunities (COGS reduction, expense optimization)
- Provide financial perspective on new product launches and marketing campaigns
- Support pricing decisions with margin analysis
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Build annual budgets with monthly breakdowns
- Create rolling 12-week cash flow forecasts
- Develop scenario planning (best case, base case, worst case)
- Track actual performance against budget and explain variances
Metrics & KPIs:
- Calculate and track key metrics: LTV, CAC, LTV:CAC ratio, gross margin, contribution margin, EBITDA
- Build dashboards for quick financial visibility
- Identify leading indicators of business health
Strategic Projects:
- Support factory investment decisions with financial modeling
- Analyze make vs. buy decisions for manufacturing
- Evaluate expansion opportunities (new products, channels, geographies)
- Assist with fundraising or financing activities as needed
Compliance & Operations (10%)Tax & Compliance:
- Ensure GST compliance and timely filing
- Coordinate with external CA for tax planning and audits
- Maintain proper documentation for FSSAI, business licenses, etc.
Process Improvement:
- Implement systems for better financial tracking (recommend tools, automate workflows)
- Create SOPs for financial processes
- Improve accuracy and speed of financial reporting
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FORRequired Qualifications:Education & Certification:
- B.Com / M.Com in Accounting or Finance (required)
- CA Inter or equivalent (required)
- CA Final (preferred but not mandatory if you have strong practical experience)
Experience:
- 3-5 years of accounting experience in a startup, D2C brand, e-commerce company, or fast-growing business
- Proven track record of building financial statements from scratch
- Experience with multi-channel businesses (online marketplaces, D2C platforms)
- Strong understanding of inventory-based businesses and COGS accounting
Essential Skills:Technical Proficiency:
- Expert in Excel/Google Sheets (pivot tables, formulas, financial modeling)
- Experience with accounting software (Tally, QuickBooks, Zoho Books, or similar)
- Knowledge of e-commerce platforms (Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, Flipkart)
- Understanding of GST, TDS, and Indian tax regulations
Analytical Mindset:
- Can look at numbers and tell the story behind them
- Ability to spot trends, anomalies, and opportunities
- Comfortable building financial models and forecasts
- Data-driven decision-making approach
Communication Skills:
- Can explain complex financial concepts in simple terms
- Present insights clearly to non-finance founders
- Written and verbal fluency in English and Hindi
Preferred Experience:- D2C or e-commerce brand experience (supplement/FMCG/consumer goods)
- Worked in a startup or high-growth environment
- Experience with Shopify, Amazon, and Flipkart seller accounts
- Familiarity with manufacturing/COGS accounting
- Experience with VC-backed or bootstrapped startups
