Adani Power Limited (APL): Adani Power Limited (APL), a part of the diversified Adani Group, is the largest private thermal power producer in India. Job Purpose: This role is responsible to lead and guide the power plant operations team in achieving safe, reliable, efficient, and economic plant operations. The Section Head will be responsible for overseeing thermal power plant operations, ensuring compliance with all regulations, and driving continuous improvement through advanced technology and digitization.

Responsibilities

Section Head - Plant Operations Startup/Support

Operational Leadership And Strategy

Lead and guide a team of power plant operators for safe and efficient operations.

Oversee operations of thermal power plants (Boiler-Turbine-Generator), switchyard, and Balance of Plant (BoP).

Coordinate with fuel teams and technical committees for manpower and services requirements.

Review and manage the department budget, including technical evaluation reports for services and equipment.

Plant Operations And Coordination

Monitor overall operations of units, including startup, shutdown, and tripping.

Analyse unit and equipment tripping, perform root cause analysis (RCA) by coordinating with other departments.

Coordinate with the maintenance department for annual overhauls (AOH and COH), unit outage activities and load scheduling.

Ensure achievement of budgeted targets such as Plant Load Factor (PLF), availability, heat rate, etc.

Ensure reduction in Auxiliary power consumption, Specific oil consumption (SOC), Specific DM water consumption, leakages, etc.

Compliance And Documentation

Ensure proper documentation of all plant parameters, routine equipment trials, and changeovers.

Maintain relevant legal compliances and ensure the implementation of Integrated Management System (IMS), Adani Workplace Management System (AWMS), DISHA, and CHETNA for the department.

Review and prepare data logs, attend Daily Performance Meetings (DPM), and participate in review planning meetings.

Ensure proper plant housekeeping of the plant area and participate in cross-plant audits.

Coordinate for all external audits and ensure timely updation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Monitoring And Load Management

Coordinate with the Load Dispatch Centre (LDC), National Load Dispatch Centre (NLDC), and State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) for ensuring efficient operations.

Follow up with techno commercial for timely approval of Purchase Requisitions (PRs) raised by the team.

Ensure the updating of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the DISHA process.

Stakeholder Engagement And Support

Follow up with other departments for critical plant operations activities, including Maintenance and Services.

Coordinate with the fuel teams for fuel management.

Engage with internal stakeholders to facilitate smooth operations and address any operational challenges promptly.

Act as a liaison between the plant operations team and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of objectives and efficient communication.

Quality And Performance Improvement

Monitor and strive for continuous improvement in plant performance metrics such as PLF, availability, and heat rate.

Lead initiatives aimed at reducing auxiliary power consumption, SOC, specific DM consumption, and leakages.

Drive the adoption of best practices in plant operations and maintenance to enhance overall efficiency.

Promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship within the plant operations team.

Participate in initiatives for knowledge sharing and benchmarking with other plants to foster innovation and excellence.

Business Sustainability

Ensure adherence to IMS, AWMS, DISHA and CHETNA guidelines within the department.

Maintain a safe and environmentally safe working environment, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Mitigate hazardous processes and ensure participation in mock drills for emergency preparedness.

Ensure communication of changes/improvements in company policies within the department.

Digitisation And Automation

Lead and execute comprehensive digitization strategies, automation solutions and drive adoption of newer technologies to optimize operational efficiency.

Review and implement process and system improvements, adopting newer technologies and innovative ideas.

People And Team Engagement

Foster a collaborative team environment, encouraging open communication and knowledge sharing among team members.

Develop and implement team-building activities that promote engagement and a strong sense of ownership among plant operators.

Encourage continuous professional development by identifying training needs and facilitating access to relevant programs.

Lead by example in promoting adherence to safety protocols and compliance with legal regulations, instilling a culture of safety within the team.

Qualifications

Educational Qualification:

BE/B.tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.

Work Experience (Range Of Years)

Minimum of 21+ years of experience in power plant operations with a focus on thermal power plants, including experience in leadership roles.

Preferred Industry

Experience in the power generation industry, specifically with thermal power plants, is highly preferred.
