Job Purpose: This role is responsible for strategic oversight and direction of all electrical maintenance activities for critical power generation components such as Boiler, Turbine and Generator. This role champions safety, sustainability, and compliance while driving innovation in Digitalisation and automation to enhance operational efficiency. As a leader, this role fosters a culture of continuous improvement and team engagement, ensuring the development of personnel and the integration of advanced technologies for business excellence.
Responsibilities
Section Head - Electrical (Boiler, Turbine and Generator)
Strategic Planning And Oversight
Provide strategic direction and guidance for the electrical maintenance of Boiler, Turbine and Generator.
Ensure strategic and tactical plans in conjunction with peers for the Boiler, Turbine, Generator and associated areas.
Provide technical direction to the team for efficient and reliable maintenance of BTG.
Review and ensure implementation of process/system improvements for BTG, including excitation systems, generator auxiliary systems, HT/LT switchgears, HT and LT motors, and more.
Ensure proactive planning and execution of systems to prevent future problems, such as SOPs, JSAs, and SMPs.
Ensure implementation of improvement projects for Boiler, Turbine, Generator, and associated areas.
Participate in cross-site and technical audits to maintain high standards of operational excellence.
Operational Excellence
Monitor and ensure the timely closure of notifications on SAP.
Oversee system improvement through innovative ideas and best practices.
Ensure availability of all BTG equipment such as excitation system, generator auxiliary systems, HT and LT switchgears, HT and LT motors, DC Motors, DC and battery systems, lighting system, earthing system, ESP, Elevators, DG sets, VFD, EOT Crane and Hoist.
Ensure communication of change/improvements in company policies within the department.
Ensure timely completion of PM, CM, and condition monitoring.
Monitor testing parameters to ensure they are within permissible limits and suggest corrective actions.
Oversee planning, scheduling and execution of shutdowns, annual overhauling, and maintenance projects.
Perform RCA, MoC, FMEA, ZFO, and ensure timely technical audits including ISO, IWMS, 5S, etc. to maintain high operational standards.
Budget And Inventory Management
Review and finalize the annual budget for BTG maintenance and improvement projects.
Manage spares inventory and develop vital indigenous spares for BTG-related systems such as generator, excitation system, switchgears, motors, etc..
Monitor business associates and ensure bill certifications with focus on cost-effectiveness.
Approve purchase requests (PRs) raised by Leads based on the delegation of authority.
Oversee the financial aspects of annual overhauling planning and execution.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement measures to reduce operational expenses.
Business Sustainability
Ensure adherence to IMS, AWMS, DISHA, ABEM and CHETNA guidelines within the department.
Maintain safety of personnel and equipment through proper training and adherence to safety protocols.
Mitigate hazardous processes and ensure participation in mock drills.
Ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements, including electrical license renewal and certifications for elevators.
Digitalisation And Automation
Review newer technology and adopt them to enhance operational efficiency.
Lead and execute comprehensive Digitalisation strategies to optimize operational efficiency.
Innovate and implement automation solutions to support overall organizational goals/strategy.
Identify system upgradation opportunities and oversee system improvements through innovative ideas and best practices.
Oversee the testing of electrical equipment for BTG and associated areas.
People And Team Engagement
Participate/Assist in the recruitment process to attract and retain skilled personnel.
Drive and enhance employee engagement across the team, including business associates to sustain a positive workplace culture.
Lead, inspire, and mentor the team to foster a high-performance culture and ensure cross-skilling through job rotation, technical, and behavioural training.
Ensure proper succession planning in the team.
Foster a conducive environment for high employee retention by ensuring team satisfaction and professional development.

Qualifications
Educational Qualification:
BE/B.tech in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
Work Experience (Range Of Years)
18+ years of experience in electrical maintenance within power generation or a related heavy industry.
Preferred Industry
Experience in the power sector, specifically with expertise in the maintenance of Boiler, Turbine, and Generator (BTG) equipment, is highly desirable.
