Scientific Illustrator/ Medical Illustrator

The Multimedia Editor plays a key role in transforming complex academic concepts into clear, engaging, and visually appealing multimedia assets. This includes creating short educational videos (Video Bytes) and Graphical Abstracts that align with AJEs content, tone, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Video Bytes

• Develop clear, concise, and engaging scripts that summarize academic content for a general audience.
• Produce short videos using stock imagery, footage, and music with tools such as Vimeo Create and Envato.
• Ensure all videos align with AJEs brand guidelines, visual standards, and tone of communication.
• Incorporate feedback from customer and quality teams to enhance creative output.

Graphical Abstracts

• Translate complex scientific information into clear and visually engaging graphics for research articles.
• Create visual storyboards or scripts outlining key concepts and visual flow before illustration.
• Produce final deliverables using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or equivalent software.
• Conduct self-reviews to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance with AJEs quality standards.

General / Cross-functional

• Collaborate with Operations, Quality, and Customer Support teams to meet client deadlines and maintain quality benchmarks.
• Maintain version control and proper documentation of all design assets and video projects.
• Contribute ideas for improving workflows, automation, and creative consistency across projects.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Master's degree or higher in life sciences (Ph.D. preferred)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong collaboration ability
• Ability to transform complex scientific information into concise, engaging content
• Proficiency in interpreting scientific findings and visualizations such as graphs and tables
• Knowledge of graphic design principles and scholarly publishing standards
• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Flexibility and adaptability to changing requirements
• Experience with word processing, graphic design, and animation software: Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Vimeo Create, Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects)
