Role Summary

An Industrial Robotics Programming & Application Engineer is responsible for programming, configuring, commissioning, and optimizing industrial robotic systems used in manufacturing and automation environments. The role involves developing robotic applications for welding, material handling, palletizing, assembly, painting, and inspection, ensuring high productivity, safety, and quality standards.

The engineer works closely with mechanical, electrical, and PLC teams to deliver fully integrated robotic automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Robot Programming & Configuration

  • Program industrial robots for various applications:
  • Spot & arc welding
  • Pick & place
  • Palletizing
  • Machine tending
  • Assembly
  • Vision-guided inspection
  • Develop and debug robot programs using OEM software such as:
  • FANUC ROBOGUIDE
  • ABB Robot Studio
  • KUKA Work Visual
  • YASKAWA Moto Sim
  • Create offline programs and perform virtual simulation before deployment.
  • Optimize cycle time and motion paths.

2. Robot System Integration

  • Integrate robots with:
  • PLC systems (e.g., Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley CompactLogix)
  • HMIs and SCADA systems
  • Vision systems
  • Servo positioning systems
  • Conveyors and material handling equipment
  • Configure industrial communication protocols:
  • Profinet
  • Ethernet/IP
  • Modbus TCP
  • Profibus
  • Implement robot safety systems (E-stops, safety PLCs, interlocks).

3. Application Engineering

  • Study customer process requirements and define robotic solution.
  • Select suitable robot model based on:
  • Payload
  • Reach
  • Accuracy
  • Application type
  • Design EOAT (End of Arm Tooling) in coordination with mechanical team.
  • Develop process parameters (welding current, spray pattern, gripping logic).
  • Conduct cycle time studies and productivity analysis.

4. Commissioning & Troubleshooting

  • Install and commission robots at customer site.
  • Perform:
  • Robot mastering
  • Calibration
  • TCP setup
  • Payload configuration
  • Conduct FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test).
  • Diagnose and resolve:
  • Motion faults
  • Communication errors
  • Servo alarms
  • Collision recovery issues
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support.

5. Robot Brands & Platforms Experience

Hands-on experience with one or more major brands:

  • FANUC
  • ABB Robotics
  • KUKA
  • Yaskawa Motoman
  • Universal Robots

6. Documentation & Compliance

  • Prepare:
  • Robot programs backup
  • Electrical I/O lists
  • Safety documentation
  • Risk assessments
  • User manuals
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • ISO safety standards
  • CE norms (if applicable)
  • Industrial automation safety requirements

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in:
  • Robotics Engineering
  • Mechatronics
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  • Automation Engineering

Experience

  • 28 years in industrial robotics programming.
  • Experience in automotive, FMCG, electronics manufacturing, or heavy engineering preferred.

  • Robot programming (TP, RAPID, KRL, INFORM, URScript)
  • Offline simulation & cycle time optimization
  • TCP configuration and frame setup
