About the company & role:
NoPo Nanotechnologies one of the few deep tech companies globally that leads the research and development in the nanotubes space. The company manufactures and sells high-quality single walled carbon nanotubes using proprietary methods known as HiPCO. These nanotubes are extremely small and strong, with a range of useful properties such as semi-conductivity, low density, and high conductivity. They have been used in a variety of applications, including Li-ion batteries, space, defence, and electronics. NoPo is currently scaling up production to meet the customer demands.
We are seeking a motivated, competent and detail-oriented Research Associate to join our cutting-edge Nantron Hi_SENSE team. The selected candidate will work closely with the team lead on chirality-specific sorting of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs) using Aqueous Two-Phase Extraction (ATPE) techniques with surfactant and DNA-based dispersion methods. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on advanced materials research relevant to next-generation infrared sensors and nanoelectronics applications. It also offers a privileged opportunity to provide the sorted samples for a global semiconductor chip manufacturing company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Initially assist & later after training, independently perform Aqueous Two-Phase Extraction (ATPE) processes for chirality-specific separation of HiPCO SWCNTs.
- Prepare, characterize, and optimize surfactant-based and DNA-assisted dispersions of SWCNTs.
- Handle laboratory-scale preparation of solutions, phase separation, and post-processing steps (e.g., dialysis, ultrafiltration, freeze-drying).
- Perform analytical characterization of enriched SWCNT samples using techniques such as UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy.
- Maintain detailed lab notebooks, records of experiments, and contribute to report preparation.
- Collaborate with the team to troubleshoot experiments and improve purity and yield of target chiral SWCNTs.
- Support in scaling up the ATPE processes as per project requirements.
- Follow laboratory safety protocols and maintain clean workspaces.
Requirements
- Experience (preferable): 1-2 Years
- Experience with colloidal systems, surfactants, or polymer solutions.
- Exposure to nanomaterials (e.g., carbon nanotubes, graphene) or related research.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic knowledge of laboratory handling of chemicals, stock solution preparation, and spectroscopic measurements.
- Good understanding of surfactant chemistry or polymer-solution interactions is a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and commitment to high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.
- Effective written and verbal communication in English.
Benefits
- Opportunity to work on advanced nanotechnology research with real-world applications in electronics and photonics.
- Hands-on training in state-of-the-art SWCNT sorting techniques.
- Collaborative, supportive work environment with mentorship opportunities.
- Competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
