Job Overview
The Receiving Room Representative primary duties are scanning incoming documents received by clinical accessioning into the LIMS, sorting and organizing these documents, running specimens between various workstations as directed and removing discarded packaging from the clinical accessioning space.
This role will also serve as a back-up to the Send-Out Coordinator. This role manages the organization and facilitates the collection and receipt of packages and samples intended for laboratory testing at Ambry. Receipt includes logging specimens, recording receipt conditions and facilitating distribution. This role supports multiple front-end cross-functional departments, including Shipping & Receiving, Clinical Accessioning, and Extraction & Distribution.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Collection, scanning and organization of incoming documents in to the LIMS.
- Supporting Clinical Accessioning, Extraction and Distribution on specimen management (receiving, transfer between workstations, destruction). Must be able to work comfortably in PPE and be capable of handling biological specimens.
- Physically transfer specimens between various work stations as indicated by workflows.
- Disposing of waste: Emptying bins and bags of up to 20 pounds and transporting to dumpster.
- Serve as back-up to Send-Out Coordinator - Physically receive inbound shipments from external couriers (FedEx, UPS, etc.) and accurately record package contents and tracking numbers within Microsoft Excel. Standing at workstation for up to two hours at a time.
- Drive company vehicle as a courier to retrieve inbound shipments from the local FedEx station to Ambry Genetics. Load and unload packages up to 25 pounds.
- Work in laboratory environment including: walking 5-plus miles a day.
- Pushing rolling bins weighing up to 20 pounds through the laboratory environment.
Qualifications
- High School graduate.
- Basic computer competency.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to competently operate motor vehicles. Able to lift up to 25 pounds. Able to walk 5 miles or more per day. Ability to adjust workflow in order to meet receiving deadlines in fast paced environment.

- Critical thinking skills and great attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Experience with document handling workflows and LIMS system.
- Laboratory environment and previous experience with specimen handling.
- Warehouse environment experience a plus.
