A radiologist is a medical doctor whointerprets medical images like X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs to diagnose and treat diseases. Key responsibilities include analyzing scans, writing diagnostic reports, collaborating with other physicians on treatment plans, and performing image-guided procedures like biopsies. They also ensure patient safety, maintain image quality, and stay updated on new imaging technology.

Core responsibilities:

• Image interpretation:Analyze medical images such as X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds to identify and diagnose illnesses, injuries, and other conditions.
• Reporting:Compile written reports detailing the findings and diagnoses for referring physicians.
• Collaboration:Consult with other healthcare professionals to discuss diagnoses and recommend or adjust treatment plans.
• Interventional procedures:Perform procedures guided by imaging, such as biopsies or placing drains.
• Patient communication:Inform patients about the imaging process, the results, and proposed treatment options.
• Quality assurance:Oversee the quality of medical images and ensure adherence to safety protocols, including radiation protection.
• Continuing education:Stay current with advancements in imaging technology and diagnostic techniques.

Required qualifications

• Medical degree (MD)
• Residency training in radiology
• Board certification in radiology or a subspecialty
• State medical license
• Expertise in various imaging techniques, including X-ray, CT, and MRI
