About the role

We are a B2B SaaS startup building an agentic AI chatbot on top of an existing product. The goal is to let users interact with our platform through an AI agent that can reason, ask clarifying questions, call APIs, and suggest next actions.

We already have a mature backend (Java-based APIs). We are looking for a Python engineer to help us quickly build the agentic intelligence layer using frameworks like LangChain/LangGraph, while keeping the system modular and replaceable. This is an execution-focused role where speed and pragmatism matter.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and build the agentic AI intelligence layer on top of existing Java-based backend APIs.
• Develop and maintain AI agents using LangChain / LangGraph for reasoning, memory, tool usage, and multi-step workflows.
• Integrate LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Claude, Vertex AI, etc., ensuring scalability, reliability, and cost optimization.
• Build and manage tool-calling mechanisms that allow AI agents to interact with internal and external APIs.
• Design modular and replaceable AI components to avoid vendor lock-in and ensure flexibility.
• Collaborate closely with backend engineers to integrate AI workflows with existing APIs and product features.
• Implement prompt engineering strategies to improve agent performance, reasoning, and accuracy.
• Develop evaluation frameworks to test agent behavior, edge cases, hallucination control, and response quality.
• Optimize performance, latency, and token usage across AI workflows.
• Write clean, production-ready Python code with proper logging, error handling, and documentation.
• Rapidly prototype AI features and ship iterations based on feedback from product and customers.
• Stay updated with advancements in LLMs, agent architectures, and AI tooling.

Required Skills

• Strong Python engineering experience with a minimum of 2 years.
• Hands-on experience with LangChain and LangGraph
• Experience building AI features for SaaS products
• Experience integrating LLMs via APIs (Vertex, OpenAI, Claude, etc.)
• Experience building agents that call external APIs via tools

Nice to Have

• Experience with Vertex AI (Gemini), AWS Bedrock, Azure Foundry
• Familiarity with the Vertex AI Agent SDK (ADK)
