Job Description

Job Title: Purchase Head

Reporting To: Director

Location: Siliguri

Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

The Purchase Head will lead and manage the complete procurement function of the organization, with a primary focus on tea purchasing, auction participation, supplier management, and cost control. This role demands strong leadership, deep knowledge of the tea market, and strategic decision-making ability to ensure quality procurement within approved budgets and margin targets.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Department Leadership

Lead and manage the Purchase Department, including supervision of a team of 1015 members.

Tea Auctions

Participate in tea auctions, evaluate lots, assess quality, and determine bidding prices aligned with cost and margin objectives.

Market Intelligence

Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the tea market, including quality trends, pricing dynamics, crop patterns, and supplier performance.

Supplier Management

Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers and auction agents to ensure competitive pricing and reliable sourcing.

Procurement Documentation

Finalize purchase orders, auction contracts, and all related procurement documentation within approved budgets.

Inventory & Availability

Ensure timely availability of materials while maintaining optimum inventory levels and effective stock rotation.

Interdepartmental Coordination

Coordinate with Stores and Accounts departments for GRN processing, billing, auction settlement, and reconciliation.

Risk & Compliance

Monitor supplier and auction performance, manage procurement risks, and ensure compliance with purchase SOPs.

Best Practices Implementation

Apply procurement best practices gained from prior experience in the Dooars region/tea procurement sector.

Education

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience

B.Com / M.Com / Tea Management Diploma / BA

Experience

Minimum 510 years of experience in tea tasting and tea procurement, preferably in a leadership role.

Key Skills

Strong negotiation skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

Good documentation and reporting skills

Cost-effective, analytical, and strategic decision-making ability

Strong understanding of tea quality parameters and auction systems

Team leadership and vendor relationship management
