CivicDataLab is a private research lab working to enable change-makers to leverage Data & Responsible AI to drive public good in India & beyond. We work at the intersection of data, technology, design and social science to strengthen access to public information, data-driven decision-making and improve citizen participation in governance.
We work closely with government agencies, civil societies, academia, research institutions, multilateral and intergovernmental organisations, philanthropy, and other actors in the ecosystem to co-create a responsible digital future by advancing economic growth and social good.
In the last seven years, we have collected, cleaned and published nearly 70,000+ public interest datasets and are catering to an active user base of more than a million citizens. Some of our publicly available open data initiatives include Intelligent Data Solution for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDS-DRR), Open Budgets India, and Open Contracting India, among others. We have co-created digital public goods with National Informatics Center (NIC), Ministry of Electronic & Information Technology (MeitY) and the Government of Assam. Additionally, we actively build capacity for a diverse group of partners working to enhance social impact, situated in India, Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand.
What are we looking forWe seek a dynamic professional with 4-5 years of experience to lead our Gender and Inclusion projects. This role involves working closely with our government partners (senior bureaucrats, ministries and various departments), industry experts and multilateral institutions, as well as managing a multidisciplinary internal team of technologists, data strategists, domain experts, designers and researchers, to ensure high-quality execution of impact-driven projects.
In this role, you will be giving 25% of your time towards exploring new project opportunities and supporting scaling or expansion of initiatives, 65% towards managing and implementing ongoing projects, and the remaining 10% on broader organisational responsibilities.
RequirementsProject Leadership & Planning
Lead end-to-end project planning and execution for gender and inclusion-focused initiatives, from kickoff to closure
Scope project requirements with partners, ensuring integration of gender-responsive and inclusive approaches
Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and trackers (e.g., ClickUp), and monitor milestones and deliverables
Coordinate across internal teams to ensure alignment on scope, timelines, and outputs
Facilitate project onboarding, including knowledge transfer (KT) sessions and clear definition of roles and responsibilities
Identify potential risks and bottlenecks, particularly related to stakeholder alignment or inclusion gaps, and plan mitigation strategies
Support initiative expansion through writing proposals, applications, concept notes, etc.
Stakeholder Engagement & Representation
Act as the primary point of contact for project coordination and communication
Manage onboarding, regular updates, and consultations with stakeholders at state and national levels
Work closely with internal teams, domain experts, and partners to ensure clarity on expectations and deliverables
Support engagement processes that are inclusive and responsive to diverse stakeholder needs
Maintain regular communication channels and ensure timely escalation of issues when required
Project Execution & Quality Management
Oversee day-to-day project implementation, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of outputs
Track progress across workstreams using agile tools; organise regular check-ins, stand-ups, and review meetings
Ensure integration of gender and inclusion considerations in project outputs, including use of disaggregated data and inclusive indicators where relevant
Coordinate with Initiative Leads, Finance teams, and other stakeholders for periodic project reviews
Ensure timely documentation, reporting, budgeting, and partner coordination
Maintain version control and organise project documentation for easy access and accountability
Field Engagement & Travel
Coordinate and participate in field visits to support project implementation and stakeholder engagement
Work with local partners, government officials, and community stakeholders to ensure effective on-ground execution
Support incorporation of field insights into project delivery and course correction
Travel as required for project-related activities
4–5 years of experience in project management within development, public policy, public health, or related sectors
Experience working with government stakeholders and managing multi-partner projects
Strong understanding of project planning, execution, budgeting, and reporting
Familiarity with gender and inclusion concepts, and ability to integrate them into project delivery
Working knowledge of data systems, digital tools, or AI/data-driven governance is an advantage
Proficiency in tools such as ClickUp, G-Suite, Slack, and collaborative documentation platforms
Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and navigate complex stakeholder environments
Experience in grant management, reporting, or supporting proposals/tenders is a plus
Willingness to travel and engage with field teams and stakeholders
How we work
CivicDataLab is based out of Delhi and has the presence of project teams located in Assam and Himachal Pradesh. We follow a hybrid model where our bandhus work out of the office for a minimum of 16 days per month (i.e, 4 days a week). We use open-source tools and agile methodologies in organising our work.
