Role Purpose / Objective:

To lead and oversee the end to end establishment of large-scale manufacturing facilities by providing end-to-end project management expertise across civil, structural, electrical, utilities, C&I, and automation domains. The role demands a seasoned engineering professional with strong techno-commercial acumen, adept in project scheduling, execution, and monitoring by integrating technical expertise. While prior solar industry experience is not mandatory, exposure to large cell factory installations will be a significant advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning

  • Lead the overall planning, design coordination, and execution strategy for setting up large-scale manufacturing facilities.
  • Formulate comprehensive project charters, scope, work breakdown structures, and detailed execution plans agreed with organisational goals including budget, timelines, resources and risk management.
  • Review and approve engineering design concepts across civil, structural, electrical, utilities, C&I, and automation systems.

Engineering and Technical Oversight

  • Oversee detailed engineering reviews across all disciplines civil, structural, electrical, utilities, instrumentation, and automation.
  • Review and validate vendor and contractor designs, specifications, and installation methodologies in line with global best practices.
  • Provide technical inputs for process optimization, automation equipment's, and utility efficiency improvements to achieve manufacturing excellence.

Project Scheduling and Monitoring

  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules (MS Project/Primavera) for effective tracking and reporting and also to monitor progress milestones and critical paths.
  • Conduct periodic reviews with internal leadership and stakeholders to communicate project status, risks, and mitigation actions.
  • Implement proactive risk management and change control processes to ensure timely issue resolution.

Techno - Commercial Management

  • Provide techno-commercial inputs during vendor selection, contract negotiations, and project cost finalization.
  • Review and approve procurement strategies for a key long-lead items and major plant/equipment.
  • Track project budgets, manage variations, and ensure cost optimization without compromising quality or safety.

Stakeholder Coordination & Leadership

  • Collaborate with internal functions Manufacturing, Operations, Finance, and EHS to ensure seamless project integration.
  • Serve as the key technical interface with external agencies, statutory bodies, and utility providers for project clearances.
  • Prepare and present detailed progress reports, dashboards, and executive updates for management review

Governance, Compliance, and Safety

  • Ensure compliance with statutory, environmental, and safety requirements during all project stages.
  • Enforce strong EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) culture at project sites through training, audits, and continuous monitoring.

Continuous Improvement and Knowledge Transfer

  • Capture engineering and project management learnings to develop best practices for future facility setups.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, safety, and environmental regulations throughout the project lifecycle.

Commissioning & Handover

  • Oversee pre-commissioning, commissioning, and validation activities to ensure systems operate per design.
  • Oversee site construction management, ensuring adherence to design intent, safety, and quality standards.
  • Supervise commissioning, trial runs, and handover to operations teams ensuring performance benchmarks are met.
  • Document and transfer project learnings, O&M manuals, and as-built drawings for long-term asset management.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • B. Tech / M. Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering;
  • Additional certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Plant Engineer (CPE), or Six Sigma Black Belt are advantageous.
  • 22+ years of progressive experience in engineering project management and execution of large-scale manufacturing or process plant setups.
  • Demonstrated capability in project scheduling and monitoring using tools such as MS Project or Primavera, including cost control, resource planning, and vendor management.
  • Exposure to setting up cell manufacturing will be an added advantage.
