Job Description Production Manager (Press Shop / Automotive Components)
Reporting To: Plant Head / Operations Head
Role Purpose
To lead press shop production operations ensuring on-time delivery, zero-defect output, optimal machine utilization, cost control, and statutory safety compliance in an automotive components manufacturing setup.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute production schedules in line with customer forecasts and OEM delivery commitments.
- Manage press shop operations including mechanical/hydraulic presses, tooling, dies, and fixtures.
- Ensure achievement of OEE, productivity, yield, and cycle time targets.
- Monitor and reduce downtime, scrap, rework, and rejection through root cause analysis.
- Coordinate with PPC, Quality, Maintenance, Tool Room, and Stores.
- Ensure strict adherence to control plans, SOPs, PFMEA, and work instructions.
- Drive 5S, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead shift operations, manpower planning, skill development, and performance discipline.
- Ensure compliance with Factory Act, EHS norms, PPE usage, and safety audits.
- Review production MIS, prepare daily/monthly reports, and present performance reviews.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Press shop operations, die maintenance coordination, and tooling life management.
- Understanding of automotive quality systems (IATF 16949, APQP basics).
- Knowledge of SPC, OEE, TPM concepts, and production efficiency metrics.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and process sheets.
- ERP / Excel-based production reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical or Production Engineering.
- 812 years of experience in press shop / automotive components manufacturing.
- 35 years in a production leadership role handling shifts and teams.
