Product Manager - UPI

Role Purpose:

Setu's Payments Business Unit is building next-generation UPI infrastructure to power fast, reliable, and intelligent money movement across India. As UPI continues to scale exponentiallyenabling everything from micro-payments to high-value commercethere is a massive opportunity to reimagine how businesses initiate, track, reconcile, and optimize payments using robust API-driven platforms.

This role is particularly exciting because it sits at the intersection of product, payments, and large-scale systems design. You will work closely with banks, payment aggregators, merchants, and ecosystem partners, gaining deep insight into their business objectives, risk architecture, and operational flows. With UPI evolving rapidly through innovations like AutoPay, Credit on UPI, and advanced collect/push capabilities, the learning and problem-solving potential in this role is immense. You will help shape the future of how India pays.

What will you do at Setu

In this role, you will own and build next-generation UPI products end-to-endshaping the roadmap, driving execution across teams, partnering with ecosystem players, and delivering reliable, scalable payment experiences for India's fastest-growing platforms.

. You will:

  • Product Development & Execution -own the end-to-end roadmap for UPI productsdesigning user and merchant flows, defining API specifications, writing clear PRDs, and driving features from concept to launch. You will deeply understand UPI rails, NPCI guidelines, and banking requirements to build compliant, scalable, and high-availability payment experiences. Your work will include analysing data, running experiments, prioritising features, and ensuring timely, high-quality releases that solve real customer problems.
  • Problem Solving & Insights-Driven Decisions - continuously analyse product performance, funnel metrics, and operational data to identify issues, improve reliability, and unlock new opportunities. You will dive deep into edge cases, understand real-world payment behaviours, and use insights to refine product design and drive continuous improvement. Your decisions will be anchored in data, user feedback, and business impact.
  • Coordinate Cross-Functionally partner closely with Engineering, and other teams to translate business and technical needs into well-scoped product solutions. You will drive cross-team alignment, clarify dependencies, remove blockers, and ensure every launch is smooth across internal and external stakeholders. You will also collaborate with Sales and Customer Success teams to refine use cases, understand customer pain points, and support go-to-market readiness.
  • Be the customer champion champion the voice of merchants, platforms, and developers by understanding their payment flows, operational constraints, and business models. You will use these insights to craft intuitive APIs, smooth integrations, and highly reliable payment experiences. Your goal is to make UPI adoption seamless, scalable, and delightful for all users.
  • Represent Setu with credibility embody our consultative, problem-solving approach in every interaction.

Who is the right fit for this role

To excel in this role, you will need

  • Experience handling payment ecosystems like digital onboarding, KYC, various legs of UPI Payments flow.
  • Strong product and technical understanding of API-driven workflows.
  • Understanding of UPI infrastructure and workflows.
  • Proven experience managing operations and product stakeholders within mid-market or enterprise clients.
  • Excellent documentation, requirements gathering, and clarity-in-communication skills.
  • Empathy: We operate with a profoundly consultative approach. Empathy for the partner is a crucial requirement for this role. Asking relevant questions to understand their needs and motivations is critical. Making them feel heard can make all the difference between a transactional relationship and a true long-term partnership.
  • Exceptional storytelling skills in both verbal and written form. Stories are the most effective way to communicate complex ideas. Your ability to craft compelling stories in the form of case studies will mean you close deals faster since your customers will understand the value proposition better.
  • A burning desire to learn and develop deep fintech expertise. Upselling API infrastructure is a lot harder (and more rewarding) than selling cashbacks. You will need to know about:
  • How financial products work: You're aware of how financial products are sold to large enterprises.
  • Architecture of legacy systems: In order to educate customers on how we can dramatically improve their business, you must first know where existing systems are broken.
  • Hands-on experience in solution-based sales and a deep understanding of APIs.
  • Agility and flexibility: Setu provides many solutions. You might walk into a conversation planning to sell a particular product, but your conversations might reveal a different and more pressing customer need. At that moment, you must have the presence of mind to alter your sales pitch to address that need and the pitch materials ready to go.
